England Civil Registration Index: An index of all births, marriages and deaths from England and Wales from 1837 on.  On fiche at Family History Library, online (in progress) at Rootsweb.com, and at Ancestry.com.  The cost of obtaining the original certificates for so many events is beyond the means of this researcher.

While indexes are generally not considered a reliable source, in many cases the information could be matched with other sources such as letters and census records to identify the correct entry with a sufficient degree of accuracy to consider it a source.  This is particularly true of marriages where the names of both partners were known from other sources.

Ervine Denison York mss: Ervine Denison York became very interested in York family history in general.  He has no known connection with our York family but gathered the information in the process of searching for his own ancestors.  In the process of his research, he made three trips to England, in 1875, 1890 and 1910.  He was a member of the New York Genealogical Society.

His manuscript includes information from three descendants: John Henry Wilford4 York, George Dallas4 York, and Nathan Albert3 York.  He specifically mentions 1916-7 and 1919 manuscripts from Nathan Albert York, a 1920 manuscript from JHW York, and a 1919 manuscript from Geo. D. York which included a bible record.

There are several versions of the manuscript, including one from my branch with handwritten notes added, and another from the Nathan Albert York branch retyped with some information up to the 1930s added.
