* "MATLOCK " ...comes from "OLD ENGLISH MUTE OAK" meaning huge oak tree under whose limbs the clans gathered for justice and punishment, to divide the spoils of war etc. Such a tree was in Derby-shire and a village that is now MATLOCK.
