Chronology Records received from Marie MATLOCK HARRIS ---5 Apr 1994

NOTE: This is where you get the real proof that George MATLOCK is the son of John MATLOCK of New Kent Co. Va. 1701/4 and that George MATLOCK is the father of Col. Charles MATLOCK of Anson Co. Col. Charles MATLOCK, father of Isreal MATLOCK, d. 1782 (Will is in Anson Co.) Though Isreal lived in Richmond Co. when he died; also father of George MATLOCK died Warren Co. Ga. as did his father Charles. Col. Charles MATLOCK had 2 sons and one dau., Isreal. George LaFayette and Mary JORDAN - I (Marie ) have the wills of all of these.

NOTE: It would appear that Steven could be another of John MATLOCk's "all of my children", or could he be a son of the old "George MATLOCK"; b. 1702! This George MATLOCK, outlived his son, Col. Charles, his son John and his grandson George, son of Col Charles; Came back from Ga. to settle his grandfathers will in Louisa Co.

I (Marie) have tried to list the above by/with the families to which they belong. I also try not to put in my "Index of MATLOCK's" anything that I don't have proof of it being a fact. Marie Matlock HARRIS - 1994

John MEDLOCK - St. Peters Parish. Record 1689

Because of the involvement of the HENDERSON Family with the early MATLOCK's in America; I'm listing what I find on that line.

From Marie Matlock HARRIS's 2nd letter (pg 3) March or April 1994

John, Jr. named on New Kent Co. Pr. records along with John above. Baptized sons, George - 1701 and Thomas- 1703. I have searched and searched New Kent Co. Va. I never found a Moore MATLOCK listed anywhere in the Co. The first place I do find him is where John deeds to son Nicholas, 100 acres Land on Bear Creek. Keep in mind that Hanover Co. Va. was set off from New Kent Co. -- Louisa Co. Va. from Hanover Co. Va.-- that Anson Co. N.C. where we find Col. Charles MATLOCK & his familly: was about the whole of N.C. and the Co. Charles is listed on every Family Group Sheet as son of George MATLOCK, son of John MATLOCK of New Kent, Co. Va. 1702. George, (father of Col. Charles) is listed in Hanover Co. Va. selling land to John, Jr. (the father of John MATLOCK, has a deed in HANOVER Co. Va. as early as 1725.

[NOTE: Edward LANE MATLOCK m. a FRY]

One other problem; you might want to consider - there are several MATLOCK's in New Kent Co. in the 1700. The name isn't spelled the same as John Sr. and John Jr. But seems obivious to me <(MMH) - they have to be the same family.

I have traced this John Jr. to Hanover/Louisa Co.'s with land records 1725. The John MATLOCK of Hyde & Beaufort Parrish and Co. Records of 1733 may be the John that died about 1732-33, with deeds to George, Mary (MATLOCK) JOHNSON, and the John MATLOCK, Jr. of the Louisa Co. Tax Records. I have traced them through the JOHNSON SLAVE RECORDS. Mary's husband, Benjamin F. JOHNSON! They are listed as the over seers of the slaves.

I found this information on/in Virginia Magazine

Sorry; this has no point of interest here !! Copied to far by mistake. MMH

1733 John Jr. died Hyde Co. N.C. - found trace of John in York Co. Va. then clerk of the Co. Court. Office he held until he died .

1733 Deed, John MATLOCK to son George (John, Jr. of New Kent Co. 1702) ? John, Jr. baptized son, George.

1733 Mar. 1- to George, son of John MATLOCK, Sr. > Tuscoky Branch TAYLOR' Creek

1733 Mar. 1- To Mary, wife of Benjamin F. JOHNSON, on Tuscoky Branch

1733 George MATLOCK & wife Hanna; to John MATLOCK, Jr. 100 acres on TAYLOR Creek - being part of a 400 acre tract Patented to Edward TROUTMAN, dec'd, late of Hanover Co. (19 lb) Mar. 1, 1733

1733 Deed, George MATLOCK ? To John, Jr. - is this father to son -- than son back to father ?

John, Jr. died 1733 (Hyde/Beaufort, N.C.(mmh) I think this deed is from father John to son George (George died 1780 ?? -- in Louisa Co. Va. ? Then the only thing that makes sense/ George deeds land to his brother, JOHN (now John, Jr.) -- so would appear this John MATLOCK is the John, Jr.; baptized son George, son Thomas, John could he be an older son ? The youngest ? (then John, Jr. of New Kent may have had 3 sons, 1. John ?; 2. George and 3. Thomas. No one has ever worked on the son Thomas' line that I know about. I found: Thomas, with a Kings Land Grant in Craven Co. 1737

1733 Deed John MATLOCK to dau Mary JOHNSON ... this John MATLOCK <d. 1733> Could he be the John (with will in 1733) Baths Co. N.C., York Co. Va. ?? then he is John MEDLOCK, Jr. and the John MEDLOCK, Sr.; would be the father of John, Jr. (above) grandfather of George, Mary & the John, Jr. That (John, Jr. of New Kent Co. Va.) Has deed from, "John to son George" - "George to John, Jr. :brother of Mary & George) Oh! My! But where & when did John, Sr. die ??

1733 Dec. 5 .. MARK ANTHONY of St. Paul Parrish, Hanover Co. Va. and wife Hester Deed to John CLAYTON, Williamsburg, James City Co., 20 shillings - 50 acres om Mattadenquin Creek, in St. Paul Parrish, Hanover Co. Va. Part of a tract granted to one William WATSON late of James City Co. (dec'd) by Patent 1672 where by the late WATSON by his last will & Testement bearing date 15 Apr 1689 devised to said Hester, by the name of Hester MEDLOCK and to her heirs forever. Ack; by Mark ANTHONY and wife Hester, 5 Apr. 1734 [Now as to the Hester WATSON story!! Hester WATSON; indeed was married to a MATLOCK male, but who ? I found her father's will naming her as his daughter as far back as 1689. In James City parish (County). Where you can see the problem! John MATLOCK, Sr. ? He could not be her husband, as his wife died either 1699 or 1700.

1734 [Note this date !!!] Oct 1734-Deed from Henry and Mary GRAVES to John DIXON- Wit.: Moore MATLOCK; This land joins John MATLOCK. !!! Moore MATLOCK to have a legal signature would by; law; be aat least 21 years of age-> other wise, a guardian would have to handle it for him.

In New Kent Co. Va. I found a John MADDOX'MADOX, with the following children Baptized:

I probably would not have seen what they had done; except, for the word Buckskins --- I will never know why I ordered this mans will - on which I have to tell you; his brother spelled MATLOCK 7 so was his wife' name Rachel MATLOCK & his brother Charles MATLOCK - the word BUXSKINS - used the same form of writing, the "C" to form the back of the letter "K", thus BUCKSKINS = became BUXSKINS. This John MATTOC, is the John killed in the Kings Mt. Battle. He had 2 brothers - Charles and Edward.

The above Robert, son of the John MADDOX, b. Feb 25, 1705, bears researching. In Burke Co. N.C.; I found along with Nicholas of Burke Co. ... one Robert MATLOCK. I've never seen since, it could be this Robert(mmh) I think it is. I also think this John is John, Jr., father of George, Thomas, John, Robert, William and Mary MATLOCK.

"Edgar Lee MATLOCK and myself,( Marie MATLOCK HARRIS), have tried for 30 years to come up with proof of a connection to the West New Jersey MATLACK's. We did come up with TIMOTHY MATLOCK, the fighting Quaker; we did try to find printed proof of a connection."
