Moore MATLOCK comes very close to matching the man with many sons and no daughters mentioned in the Matlock Legend. (See Pg 75)
Moore Matlock was a "Trail Blazer" most of his life.He was around seventy years old when he came to Tennessee, to Washington Co., area, Sullivan Co., Jefferson and Roane Counties. It is not known if Jane, his wife, came to Tennessee.

1.1.5 MOORE MATLOCK, pg. 36 in Melba's book b. ca 1714/18 and d. Apr 1812, Roane Co. Tennessee m. JANE POWELL, ca 1753 (dau of Edward POWELL & Elizabeth RANSOM) Moore is believed to be the son of 1.1. John MATLOCK, Jr. of Hanover Co. Va. Supposes ... but Melba could not prove this. Moore Matlock is first discovered in Halifax Co. Va. He builds a cabin on the land of Edward Powell before 1766 on Pole Cat Creek.
He buys and sells land here, but in 1780-86 he is on the Botetourt Co. tax lists, wife, Jane Powell Matlock is on tax list 1783-1786 Halifax Co. In 1786 he has a North Carolina land grant to Tn. He sells land to son Zachariah in 1794, in Washington Co. Tn. Witnesses are Moore Jr., Jason, and Absolom MATLOCK. In 1796 he sells his land in Sullivan Co., and in 1798 sells his land in Jefferson Co. to Jason MATLOCK. In 1805 he is on the tax list in Roane Co.Tn.where he died. His Administrator was Jason Matlock.
In addition to Zachariah, Littleberry, Jason, Moore Jr., and Absolom it is believed that there were sons named Charles, Luke and possibly William and John. No mention of any girls. The Matlock's are well known for producing twins and male babies.
