JOSIAH MATLOCK - according to the 1850 Co., Ark census, born ca 1825 in Tenn. Living in the household of R. B. Miller. Other Tenn. Matlocks living in this county this year were Absolom and Smith S. MATLOCK from Overton Co., Tn..
WILLIAM MATLOCK, appears to be the son of John above. They are shown in the 1850 census of Carroll Co. Ar. John according to these records was born ca. 1789 in Ky. probably earlier since the ages of this family are not consistant. William was born ca 1809 also in Ky. The Wash. Co.Ky. census of 1810 show John with 1 son under 10. John is probably one of the sons of Isham MATLOCK who shows in Wash.Co. Ky in 1800, also 1810 and reportedly went to Missouri about 1818. These men and/or their descendants remain in Ark. through the 1880 census. Elijah MATLOCK who appears to be the son of John shows his birth as 1816 in Mo. He had two sons, William and Smith. It may be interesting to note that Smith S. a son of Moore MATLOCK, Jr. also lived in this country in 1850 and 1860.
Received much of the informatiom on this chapter from, Harry John VERBURG no. 1.1.5.6.3.1.5.7.2. 1992.
I found him through an old "Genealogical Helper" Magazine. WSB
In a round about route I was contacted by Amy C. MATLOCK from Addison, Tx. Oct 1992. I believe they are connectecd to this chapter. Gibb MATLOCK of Dallas, Texas is her father. Her second cousins are John and Kathy MATLOCK. Her late cousin John WILSON did some research on The Matlocks This branch is connected to Smith S. Matlock as far as they know.
