Received the following information from Juanita Fern IGNOWSKI, of The Dalles, Or. June 1992
I believe my grandfather's name was William --- MATLOCK, and that he came from Liverpool, England. My grandmother's name was NANCY JANE WINTERS, and I believe she came from Ireland. (Could this be William MATLOCK & Nancy SHIELDS ??) My father was known as:
WILLIAM FREDRICK MATLOCK b. 30 Mar 1890, Worthington, Indiana d. 21 Feb 1963, Hillsboro, Or. burr.Crescent Grove,Cem,Tigard,Or. m.1st.Marqrettia (May),a Mexican lady. Her name may be misspelled. May died giving birth to a son, Arron, someplace in Texas and as near as we can tell in 1918. May's sister came to care for the baby until William, my dad, came home from the war.. Then Aaron's Aunt took him and fled to Mexico, so my dad couldn't see or ever have his son. I doubt he ever went by the name of Matlock. His aunt might have used her name for him.

In 1947 my husband and I took my parents to Indiana. Dad looked up a cousin that lived in Coal City, Indiana. They ran an 'Old Hotel' with wooden walkway, out door john, big pot belly stove in the entrance way. They had made the bottom floor into three small apartments. Dad's cousin Laura, had the first apt. she had an old wood stove with a hearth part way around it.Blanche, Laura's dau. lived in the next apt., and this is where the guest's registered. She had an electric stove, etc. The next apt. was occupied by Blanche's dau., and she had everything in gas. These are the only people I ever saw of dad's family except for his cousin, Les MATLOCK of Heppner. I believe we are related to the Matlock's in Pendleton, Heppner and Eugene. During WWII I lived in Portland,I saw another Juanita MATLOCK in the phone book. I called her up and was invited to visit her. I was never treated so like a queen before. She had a brother named Glenn, a farmer, living in Heppner also related to Les MATLOCK. She and her brother had shares in the Imperial Hotel, on 6th and Oak, I believe across from the Heathman. She lived near where the Lloyd Center in located, with her servants

Another family of OREGON Matlock's. This information comes from Myra J. (NATLOCK) GARRETSON, 20 Feb 1991, Gridley, Ca.
Dear W.S.Bailey, my grandfather was:
NOBEL NOAH MATLOCK b. 1831, Belleville, Indiana and d. 11 Jan 1895. m. SARAH MILES (or SARAH CRAGHEAD) b. 1838 in Sedalia, They settled in Missouri before crossing the plains to Oregon in the 1850's. They had nine children, six boys and three girls, my father was the youngest. Charley, Carrie, Claude, Grant, William, and Merle. The girls were Ruth, Agnes, and Louise.
My father Merle and possibly Uncle Carrie who lived in Clackamas, Ore.are buried in the Clackamas cemetery where there is a Matlock family plot, my brother, Hugh Ballard is buried there also. I remember my father speak of living in the Salem-Silverton area; I believe he was born on Mill Creek near Salem in 1880. That concludes all the information I have on my family.
[Note from WSB: Myra's mention of the Clackamas Cemetery and that her brother Hugh BALLARD was there, was the key for Clarke Morton to find his family and aline them to the family tree.
