FRANCIS MONROE, born December 12, 1869 in Cherokee County, Texas, son of James Mansfield and Martha Jane (Bates) Matlock. He married Mary Augusta "Gussiell Coats, daughter of Alexander Jackson (Jack) Coats and Sarah Vardeman. They had the following children: Lula, Ross, Jackson, Claude "Buddy", Odie, Ola, Gladys, Ruby, Dora Bell and Ethel (last two died young). They lived in Rusk and Nacogdoches Co. then moved to Polk Co. , Texas. Francis Monroe died August 11, 1946 in Polk Co. and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Livingston, Texas. His wife died May 4, 1951 and is also buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

FRANCIS, listed in Military Dead of the War of 1812. Died 1813.
