LITTLEBERRY, born 1780-1790 (in 1830 census, his children were consistent in saying their father was born in N. C ). Parents unknown. Married 1814 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tn. Phoebe Tharp. Littleberry was shown in the 1820 census of Franklin Co., Ala. Also 1830 and 1840. His widow, Phoebe is shown in 1850 and 1860. Although many children are shown in the earlier census records, only 3 were at home in 1850, i. e. LUKE, born ca 1766, although not definitely identified as such, appears to be the son of Moore and Jane Powell Matlock. He is listed as a taxpayer in 1787 in Washington Co. N. C., shows in the 1790 census of Greenville Co., S. C., is shown in Sullivan Co., Tn. in 1796 and 1797, is a taxpayer in Humphreys Co., Tn. in 1812, shown in Dickson Co., Tn. 1820 and 1830 and shown in Humphreys Co. in 1840 and 1850. His wife does not show in 185 and he does not show in 1860. In 1829 Edward Choate named in his will a daughter Charity Medlock. Richard Choate tells me that The Humphreys Co. Matlockssaid that the Matlock who married Charity was the ancestor of all the Humphreys Co. group. Luke would have to be the one. Also, Edward Choate, Jr. came to Tennessee from Halifax Co., Va. If given names have any bearing (and I think they generally do), Lukc had a son named Edward M., Luke, Jr. had an Edward, James (son of Luke) had an Edward, Littleberry had a Charles Edward and Wm. (son of Luke, Jr.) had an Edward. The name of Edward Choate (a later one than Edward, Jr.) appeared on the 1810 Petition also signed by Littleberry Matlock. The children of Luke, according to census records, seerns to have been about 12. Since they were all grown by 1850 rnany of them are nameless. Those whom, I identify are Jarnes, b. ca 1785 in Va.; Littleberry, born ca 1787 in Va.; Edward M., born 1808; and Luke, Jr., born ca 1806. Other good possibilities are Charles B. (served in W. Tenn.
