PAUL G. MATLOCK - From Centennial History of Arkansas: Chicago, S.J. Clarker Pub. Co. 1922 pp 1006:

One of the foremost attorneys in Fordyce is PAUL G. MATLOCK who is a native of this state, his birth having occurred near Tulip on 30 June 1871. The paternal ancestors carne to America prior to the Revolutionary War, locating in Virginia, and many of them participated in that war and in the War of 1812,

The father, GEORGE D. MATLOCK (I have been told his middle name was Gray. JNA), was a native of Massachusetts (should be Mississippi. JNA) and removed to Arkansas, locating near Tulip in 1847. He was one of the first settlers in this section of the state and throughout his life followed farming, achieving gratifying success in that connection. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War he was elected captain of a Texas company but due to a broken leg caused by a falling tree, he was unable to remain in active service and consequently went into the quartermaster department. His demise occurred near Tulip in June, 1903, when seventy years of age. At Winchester, Tenn., was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Matlock to Miss Sue Simmons, a daughter of George and May Simmons. She is still living, aged 82 years. To this union six children were born, five boys and one girl, Paul G. being the second in order of birth.

PAUL G. MATLOCK received his preliminary education in the public schools of Winchester, Tenn., and later enrolled as a student in Cumberland College at Lebanon, that state. He was graduated from that institution in 1898 with the LLB degree and later in the same year commenced the practice of his chosen profession in Princeton, Dallas Co., Ark. He built up a large general practice there, remaining until 1908. On 1 Dec. 1910 he came to Fordyce. He has since practiced here and has built up an extensive and lucrative patronage, being recognized as one of the representative members of his profession in Fordyce. In 1900 Mr. Matlock was elected to the state senate, serving in the sessions of 1901-1903. From 1908 to 1910 he was prosecuting attorney of the 10th judicial dist., comprising 6 counties.

On the 8th of Feb. 1901 was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Matlock to Miss Beulah May Davis, a daughter of John F. and Emily Davis, prominent residents of Murfreesboro. Her ancestors came to this country at an early day and settled in Virginia. They fought gallantly in the Rev. War, some of the family being members of General Washington's bodyguard. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Matlock two children have been born: Emily Sue who is 15 and Charlotte, 10. The family is Methodist. Fraternally he is a Mason, a member of Roberta Lodge. He is always interested in civic affairs. The above is from the family of Wm. and Mary E. of Franklin Co., Tn. and DeSota Co., Miss.

PISEK MEDLOCK, b. ca 1839 in Tn. Shown in 1870 census of Nacogdoches County, Tx. Wife was Lavicy. Children shown on this census: Joseph b. ca 1858; Saray b. ca 1862; Celia (Smith's wife was Celia Hooper); Jack b. ca 1865; Margarett b. ca 1866 and Rosa b. ca 1868. All birthplaces for children Texas. I do not find this family in 1860 or 1870 in Nacogdoches Co. In 1869 this county a Thon-.as Iv. edlock married in Nacogdoches and in 1873 A.A.Medlock married Frank White in Nacogdoches. I find Thomas Medlock in 1870 living in the same community as my gr. gr. grandfather Lewis J. Matlock leading me to believe these Medlocks were of the West Tn. group and kin to my own line. I find deeds in the courthouse concerning the son of this Thomas Medlock as late as 1900. None of my folks, however, have ever heard of this man.

PLEASANT, b. ca. 1827 Tn. Shown in Hays Co., Tx. 1880 census. Wife Mary, b. ca 1833 Mo. Children shown: Laura b. ca 1863; Alfred b. ca 1875 and Oscar b. 1880. From Mrs. Tell E. Matlock, Jr. of Austin Tx. I have received the following information: "My husband's greatgrandfather was Pleasant M. Matlock and his wife's name was Mary Ann. According to her application for a Confederate Veteran's pension they were married in Barry Co., Mo."(Editor's note: Celia "Elly" Hooper Matlock, wife of Smith - see above paragraph- left Perry Co. Tn. after 1850 and was in Barry Co., Mo. in 1855).

PLEASANT, shown 1850 Perry Co., Tn. as: Pleasant Matlock 21; Milly or Milton 18; Wm. 16; Martha 14. Next door under Wm. Young and wife Mary 35 is listed Celia Matlock 53, b. Tn. Smith had died in 1846. It seems a little strange that Celia would not be listed in the same house as her unmarried children, but..... This is probably the same Pleasant listed in paragraph above.

PLEASANT, listed on the Confederate Roster of Tennessee as being in A Co. Ilth Inf. Pvt. There is also a P.M. listed as a Pvt. B. Co. 24th SS Bn. but also listed in this Bn. are Edward and Luke from Dickson so I think he is one listed below. A Pleasant is listed in the Mo. list of Confederate veterans.

PLEASANT, listed in household of Edward and Sarah in 1860 Humphreys Co. Tn. Married 23 July 1871 same county to Mary Jane Bass.

PRESTON MEDLOCK, according to the history of Maries Co. Mo. left Mo. about 1885 and moved to Washington State. It was mentioned that he had 11 children most of whom lived in Western or Northwestern states and 3 sons in Canada. Everything being almost identical with PRESTON HALE MATLOCK I feel sure these are one and the same. Preston Hale, son of James Ransom was born 1832 Washington Co.,Tn. Married 1854 Maries Co., Mo. Kerlista Ann Larrick, died 1890 Colfax, Washington. They had 11 children; John Henry, Thomas Buckingham, Barbara Jane, Jas. Preston, Robert Edwin Lee, Sarah Elizabeth, Manly Ransom, Wm. Alfred, Geo.
