EARLY MATLOCK - MEDLOCK TAX RECORDS

Many Matlocks/Medlocks obviously not counted in census. They were certainly prolific to say the least, and since some of them had been in this country for 100 years, it is safe to assume that there were many of them by 1790.

Indiana

1811 Franklin Co., Indiana Taxpayers - David, George and James Matlock.

Tennessee

• 1796 Jason and Luke Matlock are taxpayers in Sullivan County, Tn. Jason - 100 acres and Luke - 50 acres. (Note: Moore Matlock had land grant of 150 acres in Sullivan County in 1794 from State of N.C.
• 1796 Carter Co., Tennessee Tax List contained the names of George Metlock, Gidion Metlock and William Metlock. George has 444 acres and Gidion and William poll only.
• 1797 Sullivan County - Luke Matlock still on Tax List.
• 1798 Carter County, Tennessee Tax List contained the names of George Metlock (120 acres) and William (poll only).
• 1799 Grainger Co., Tennessee contained the name of John Medlock (300 acres).
• 1802 Jackson Co., Tennessee Tax List - William Matlock.
• 1802 Roane Co., Tennessee Tax List - William, John and Jason Matlock.
• 1805 Roane Co., Tennessee - Tax List contained the names of James, Jason, John, Moore, Rial and William Matlock.
• 1805 Anderson Co., Tennessee - Nathaniel Medlock on Tax List.
• 1807 Washington Co., Tennessee - Bird Matlock shown in court records. Also John.
• 1808 Roane Co., Tennessee Jason, John and William on Tax List.
• 1805 Grainger Co., Tennessee - Charles Medlock on Tax List.
• 1809 Roane Co., Tennessee Nathaniel Matlock on Tax List.
• 1811 White Co., Tennessee - John Medlock on tax list.
• 1812 Humphreys Co., Tennessee Tax List - contained the names of Caswell, Luke and Smith Matlock.
• 1812 White Co., Tennessee Tax List - contained the names of George, Wm., James and John Medlock.
• 1812 Bedford Co., Tennessee Tax List - contained the name of William Meadlock.
• 1813 Overton Co., Tennessee - Petition signed by Moore Matlock.
• 1814 Roane Co., Tn. Tax List - William, Jason and Henry Matlock.
• 1815 Same as above.
• 1817 Roane Co., Tn. Tax Lists contained names of William, Isaac, Henry, John and Jason Matlock.
• 1818 Roane Co., Tn. Tax Lists contained names of William, Jason Sr., and Jr., Henry and John Matlock.
• 1819 Roane Co., Tn. Tax List contained the names of William, Jesse, Charles and Jason Matlock.

Virginia

• 1704 John Medlock 200 acres in New Kent County.
• 1755 Tax List - Granville District, N.C. John (shown as Modock).
• 1769 Inventory- William Matlock in Bedford Co., Va.
• 1776 Tax List - David, George, James and John - Henry Co., Va.
• 1782 - John, Louisa, Zachariah - Hanover Co.
• 1782 and 1785 Tax List - John Madlock and Zach Medlock shown in Halifax Co. Va. (1785).Both show as Matlock in 1782.
• 1782 - Jane - Halifax (6 wht. 1 blk.)
• 1784 Tax List - John Medlock shown in Botetourt Co., Va.
• 1784 John - Botetourt Co.
• 1785 - Louisa, John, Henry, George - Hanover Co.
• 1782 and 1785 - John - Halifax  (4 wht. & 4 blk.)
• 1782 and 1785 - Zachariah - Halifax (3 wht. & 4 blk.)
