Taulbee Public Archives for April 1999 From: "Bess Rose Miller" Thu 5:24 PM Subject: [TAULBEE-L] Re: New Swango Book Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To all of you out there who may be Swango descendents: NOTICE; WILLIAM SWANGO (SCHAWAGAU) AND HIS WIFE AND SONS: JACOB, ABRAHAM, & ISAAC CAME FROM SCHWANGAU, GERMANY IN 1747. (Well, the wife died and was buried in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but the rest of them got to VA. The Swango Family in the U.S. has been well researched and THE SWANGO FAMILY, published in 1976 records much information available about the Swango Family from 1747 to 1976. However, we realize there are some gaps, and we are also looking for update material since 1976: i.e. births, deaths, marriages, etc. , since we are presently updating THE SWANGO BOOK of 1976. We would very much appreciate any such information that any of you could send us. If you know--or suspect--that your ancestors are in the 1976 book, OR you know that they are not and wish to be included, please send any information showing your Swango connections to brosemil@siscom.net OR via snail mail to: Bess Rose Miller, 104 Cranewood Dr., Trenton, Ohio 45067. The new book will be prepared for publication in 2000. Please send any information by January 5, 2000. Any questions can also be sent to the above address(es). There are a limited number of the 1976 SWANGO BOOKS still for sale. They will become collector items in the near future--if they are not already. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the 1976 book, e-mail the above address for information. Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com I cannot place with a family either of the following Taulbee Women: I have two records of a Pike County KY, marriage: HARTWELL. Newson m TOLBY, Sally of age 3 - 3 - (18)13. ( KY Marriage Records From Registry of KY Historical Society) HARTWELL, Newson m TOLBEY, Sally 3 - 3 - 13 (Pioneer FAmilies of East & Southeast KY by Wm Kozel. You would think that if these two transcriptions were based on the same records, that at least the name would be spelled the same, but no... Nor can I place the following in the 1920 Indiana Federal Census. TOLBY, Nancy pg 35, Dubbois County; Males under 10 - 2; Males 26 - 44 - 1 Women: Under 10 - 2; 10 - 15 - 2; 26 - 44; 1; Agriculture - 1. It is possible that this is Nancy Ann JONES, wife of Thomas TOLBY whom Rose lists as dying in Tippecanoe County in 1874. There are problems with the ages in the census and the birthdate of Nancy as given by Rose. Too many children for a 15 year old mother, and quite a number for a 16 year old. Also, where is Thomas" Why is Nancy and not he listed in the census. So I am stuck with the question "who is she?" -- Bob George Surprise, Arizona http://www.doitnow.com/~moravia/index.html The Crooked Tree's Census On Line & The Taulbee Pages George, Taulbee, Brady, Bailey, Dressback From: Bob George 4/17/99 7:52 PM Subject: [TAULBEE-L] John Martin Taulbee & Margie Creech Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com Our list cousin Kathy Downing as sent a photo of John Martin Taulbee and wife Margie Creech. I have placed this in the Taulbee photo album. She hopes to identify the children soon. She has a very complete genealogy, but because it is this century with many living and young people, we won't post it. But we know it can be difficult putting names to faces of people we only knew as adults. Creech is fairly common in three of the Taulbee lines. So maybe some of you others can help her. Want to welcome two new list cousins Eric and James Taulbee. We are now about 100 members, but you would not know it from the silence on the list. I am afraid that with Rose's book in our closed pages, we have less to say to each other. But I have faith one of us will make the great break through soon. I have not yet had time to see if the John Talby marriage in 1619 could be our Salem John. During the summer, I will be a genealogy library monitor at least one day per week. Only way I can guarantee it will be open. It is said to be the largest of it's kind. NOt many microfilms, but a few thousand books. And a few more thousand periodicals. Just wish they were all indexed. Anyway they take the field and watch the pitching staff walk lots of batters, allow clutch hits, miss easy fielding plays and fail to advance the runners with botched bunt attempts. At least that was the line for the game I attended today. But I digress. While at the game it crossed my mind that perhaps the catcher, Eddie Taubensee was a Taulbee descendant with a variant of the name. Does anyone on the list know if Taubensee is in someway a variant of Taulbee, Tolby, ect. He was born 10-31-68 in Beeville, Texas according to the Reds home page. I am especially excited to hear of James because Bob has informed me that James is a very close cousin to the side of the Taulbee family I have had a difficult time tracing! ( I descend from the Taulbees twice and have been able to trace one side easier than the other!) I would like to especially thank Bob for all his hard work! Without him I would have never found the vast amount of information I have accumulated on my Taulbee family! I encourage the cousins to continue to post and share information on what they know because someday that information may be that missing link we have searched for! I would love to hear from any of you who closely descend from or have information on the descendants of Preacher William Lee Taulbee. Ellen Sparks Profitt was born 19 May 1906 to Fielden Sparks and Emma Lou Booth in Campton. Her grandparents were John J. Sparks, Tamar Jane Tolson, William Booth, and Betty Elizabeth Shoemaker. Great grandparents: James Sparks, Temperance Spencer, Peter Tolson, Polly Ann Taulbee, William Booth, Sarah Taylor, James Shoemaker, and Pherby Spencer. All of these are well known Wolfe Co surnames. In 1923, Ellen married Columbus Profitt, who had Centers, Branson, Hobbs, and Spencer connections. Columbus was the son of Steven Profitt (abt 1856-bef 1920) and Emily Catherine Branson,. I'm sure that Steven was part of the large Profitt clan going back to Sylvester but I have been unable to identify his parents so far. Ellen died 21 Jun 19998 at the age of 92, still living in her own home by herself, in Letcher Co KY. Any help in identifying Steven Profitt's parents will be greatly appreciated. Charles has sent a little more information. The father was Edward. There are lots of Edwards in the book, but I have nothing to place any of them with Arnold at this time. A photo of Arnold has been placed in the Taulbee Album. It puts him in the Navy. Below is the additional info Charles sent. As always, please respnon to Charles and the list if you can help since this will add to the information in Rose's book. I came up with a few things that might help. He had three sisters, names were. Judy, Fronie, Irene and two brothers who's names was Deard, Haggard there could have been more. I know my father did some writing for a newspaper in Clay City Ky. The paper was called THE CLAY CITY TIMES. I have some old Navy records of his stored away i will try to get them out, this after noon are to night. ... Untill next time THANKS George W.
