From: Bob George 1/19/99 6:14 AM Subject: From a new Taulbee Subscriber Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com This is an edited version of a communication from a new subscriber. If any of you recognize her line, let her know. Minerva, and other new subcribers, sending communications to the list reaches far more people than if you send them just to me. The more you reach the greater the chance of receiving help. I am Minerva Alice Tolby's ggg granddaughter. I requested a birth certificate from Missouri but they have nothing. She was born June 22, 1870 in Purdy, Barry Co., Mo. [[Very few states had birth certificates prior to WWI when Congress got around to requiring them]] She died January 21, 1941 in Los Angeles, Calif. So, I requested a death certificate from California this last November and still wait. (They are back logged 15-20 weeeks due to short staffing issues.) I have had a real tough time finding anything on her. I was at work last Friday looking up some information on medical records (I work for Intermountain Health Care as the HIS Clinic Coordinator for the Physician's Division), and right in the middle of the information on medical records was "family tree". I thought that it was really strange, clicked on it and it took me to -type in surname, which I did (oddly enough I typed in TOLBY) and it took me to ...married William Houston. It completely blew me out of the water. There was the information we have been looking for for years (and have yet to receive from California). Here is the genealogy on me: Carrie Lynn Jackson married Michael Wayne Berg 8/14/1974 Mike has been my better half for 24+ years. Four children: [I have edited out the names and birthdates. For all of you, It is not a good idea to post information on your children as it can assist someone in theft of identity.] The Tolby line is on my Mother's side- ME: Carrie Lynn Jackson My parents: DEANNE TROLINGER and Louis Ramon Jackson Her parents: Ruby Conna Cluff and JAMES HOUSTON TROLINGER. His parents: James Reed Trolinger and NAOMI NELL HOUSTON. Her parents: William David Houston and MINERVA ALICE TOLBY. And that is as far as we were able to go until NOW!!!!! When (and if) I receive Minerva's death certificate, that should give me the info I need and I will send in the genealogy I have on that part of the family to update what you have on Minerva. Again, thank you for all the time and effort put forth...if there is anything I can do to help this cause along, please contact me by writting, calling or emailing. email home: cbpresidio@juno.com From: Bob George 1/24/99 1:11 PM Subject: A Taulbee death notice Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com Alex sent this to me this AM and I thought it should be shared with the rest of you. From: T Taulbee 1/25/99 11:58 PM Subject: [TAULBEE-L] Levi Lamrey Taulbee Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com Hello Cousins, I am attempting to find information, past the information in Rose's book, regarding Levi Lamrey Taulbee, my Great Grandfather. He is listed in Rose's book on page 247, information on his children and grand children are found on pages 247, 248, 250 and 251. My line continues through his son Harry Lee, listed on pages 247 and 249 and his Grandson Harold Lamarr listed on page 249. Levi lived in Hillsboro, Illinois, Nebraska, (probably took a land grant after his service in the Civil War) and Orange, California, where he is buried, I have seen his and Mary's graves in Orange. They had 9 children shown to have survived. The only Taulbee's at the Orange California cemetery listed are Levi and Mary. If any of you have any additional information on Levi or Mary or ideas as to helping in this search, please let me know. Do not feel slighted if I cannot put a name with your email address. Since my crash, I no longer have some of the information and unless you correspond very frequently, sign your name, or have your identity in your mail program, I will recognize the address, but not always remember the name that goes with it. The photo is of Elizabeth Ann Lacy b. d/o Eliza Burnam Taulbee and Clarinda Lane (Taulbee) Holliday. Clarinda and Eliza were daughters of William Harrison Taulbee so I guess that makes Clarinda Elizabeth's aunt. This is the only link in our photo album labled as new. http://www.doitnow.com/~moravia/taulbee.html A huge thank you to all of you who have sent photos. Bob George Surprise, Arizona From: Bob George 1/30/99 6:36 AM Subject: [TAULBEE-L] Borchfield is up Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com The Birchfield/Burchfield Cenconnect boards are up and running in the same location as the others. You can reach all the boards we have at http://www.doitnow.com/~moravia/genc.html With the Birchfield and Tolson Boards we are going to be a bit liberal since there are no associated surname mail lists. To the Bio board, post birth information (on an individual, not a list of birth records), marriate information, deaths except for obits or death certificates which have a board of their own. Additional information after you have posted can be added as a response to the original post, or sent to me to edit into the original post. Post to the bios anything which tells what a person was doing at a certain point in his/her life. Enjoy. I have used up my quota of 8 surname board suites, so if there are other surnmaes important to our or your family, and you can't find a board for them, consider becoming a rootsweb sponsor and setting them up yourself. Except for the directions you will recieve not always working, there is very little work involved. I have not yet posted welcome messages to the boards, but I will get around to that something this weekend. Don't let that stp you. Resent-From: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com To: TAULBEE-L@rootsweb.com Someone on this list asked me for this information many monts ago when I did not have it. This will add considerable detail to what is in Rose's book. I will also post this to the Birchifield Biography Board. There is more on this line, but I have a touch of the flu this weekend and a limit to how much I want to type at one time. >From KENTUCKY, A history of the State by Perrin, Battle and Knifin. Pub 1888. James M. SEBASTIAN was born in Perry County, Ky., (In that part of Perry that soon after was included in Breathitt County), on the 24th of November, 1838. His father, Wesley SEBASTIAN, was bon in Claiborne County, Tenn., emigrated to Kentucky with his father when a small boy, and settled in Perry County, KY., where he married Millie BURCHFIELD in 1837. In 1839 he emigrated to Illinois and settled in Fayette County, where he died in 1847. His wife, who survived him was the daughter of Adam and Nancy [TOLBY] BURCHFIELD, natives of Wilkes County, NC., who moved to what is now called Letcher County, and subsequently settled in Breathitt County. Wesley Sebastian was the father of four children: James M., Matilda, John F. And Jacob. Mrs Millie Sebastian married the second time to Joseph ROBERTS, and emigrated to Parker County, Texas, where she still resides with her husband. James M. Sebastian was raised on a farm in Illinois until twelve years of age, when he returned with his mother and family to Kentucky, and was engaged in farming in Owsley County about four years. He then left home to fight the battle of his life on his own book at the age of sixteen, went to Jessamine County, KY., and worked on a farm for about eight months. Being dissatisfied with mixing, laboring and competing with slave labor, he left Kentucky and went to Illinois, where he worked on the farm in the summer and attended school in the winter. He returned to Kentucky in 1858, where he attended and taught school until 1861. Upon the breaking out of the war of the Rebellion, he was on of the first men in Owsley County to volunteer in the Federal army. He was discharged from the service at St. Louis, August 21, 1863, after having been in the United States service two years. He then returned to Kentucky, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1865. In the same year he was appointed master commissioner of the Owsley circuit court; in 1866 was appointed county attorney, and served out an unexpired term. He married DEBORAH A. NEEDHAM of the 28th of August, 1866 - a daughter of daughter of Christian B. And Lucinda (PERKINS) NEEDHAM, of Hazel Green, Wolfe County, KY. To their union have been born eight children, five of whom are living: James G., Elizabeth, Laura, John and Daisy. The family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Sebastian was selected by the Republicans and run as candidate for Commonwealth's attorney in the Fifteenth Judicial District of Kentucky in 1868, receiving a complimentary vote of the Republican Part, who were in a hopeless minority, and was defeated by the Hon. Robert RIDDLE. He was nominated at London, KY.. In September 1864, for Congress in the Eighth Congressional District, and canvassed the district with the Hon. James B. McCreary. He was defeated for Congress by MCCREARY at the November election, 1864. He is a Republican in politics, a Royal Arch Mason, and a member of F. & A, M Fraternity.
