| ANDREW (JACKSON?) TOLBY (Taulbee) |
|
(c) 1999 TFDG The use of TOLBY as the surname form is because the TAULBEE variant does not show up until about the 1840s and not in all lines. [B. G.] Andrew was born circa 1775 probably in Orange County, North Carolina, the son of William Hitchcock Talbee (Tolby/Taulbee) and an unknown 1st, possibly 2nd, wife. Andrew died after 1840 in Washington County, Virginia. Andrew married 2nd [possibly 3rd], on December 24, 1829 in Gate City, Scott Co., VA to Elizabeth Alley. Andrew's children by 1st [possibly 2nd] marriage: Rose Taulbee listed all these as children of Andrew but expressed uncertainty that all were his. There is at this time no other credible place to put them.
Andrew's marriage to Elizabeth Alley produced no children. A record for Andrew's marriage to Elizabeth Alley, can be
found at: Scott County, Virginia: From Fayette County Genealogy Magazine "The Generations of SAMUEL TAULBEE b. ca 1715", by Rose Taulbee Page 41 "Children of William Hitchcock Taulbee and FIRST WIFE (name unknown). These were probably born in Orange County, N.C. Elizabeth b. ca 1771 m.______ Casey, remained in N.C. Samuel b. ca 1773 m. Rebecca Birchfield in N.C. Samuel and his younger brother Isaac went to Kentucky before the rest of the family... he left Kentucky and went to Indiana, where he died after 1830. No other info. Andrew b. ca 1775 m.
(1)_________. Andrew came to Kentucky with his father. His
wife died in
1828. He then went to Virginia, where in 1829 he married
Elizabeth Alley, died after 1840. [See
Rose Taulbee correction below] Fayette County [Illinois], Vol. 8, No. 4, published December 1979. "Additions & Corrections to the Taulbee Family" by Rose Taulbee [the periodical is called Fayette FACTS] Andrew came to Kentucky after 1825, not with the rest of the family. Rose Taulbee was not certain that Wiley was a son of Andrew. "Have decided to put WILEY here in Andrew's file, at least they will be together. Andrew could have married two times before he married Elizabeth Alley. Have info that Samuel and Wiley were brothers and that their mother's name was Banks (last name). Samuel was married and living in Breathitt County, KY 1850 and Wiley was married and living in Morgan Co., KY 1850. By 1860 they both were in Morgan Co., 1870 and 1880 they were in Wolfe Co., did not move, Wolfe formed from part of Morgan. Did not find them 1900. IF they don't belong to Andrew, then there is SAMUEL b. 1810 who married 1827 Perry County, Ky and we don't know his wife's name. This Samuel belongs to II Samuel Taulbee. Samuel (1810) was a widower by 1840 and never married again. I do hope someone really knows that will tell us."
