John Andrew Taulbee

John Andrew Taulbee and Family 1912 Sentinel,Oklahoma. It was contributed by David Buchanan and replaces an earlier unlabeled version. David passed on a few spelling corrections:

1. Calla Taulbee Elzey should be "Callie".

2. Sabrina DeBusk should be spelled "Sabina".

3. Mary Voth was of course Mary DeBusk when this picture was taken.

4. We're not sure of the proper spelling of Elzey. It could also be
"Ellzey".

This picture [was] published in the Wolfe Co. (KY) News in May 1994.

The caption reads:

FAMILY PORTRAIT IN THE SNOW: The family of Dr. John Taulbee and wife, Mary Cope Taulbee, posed for this portrait in front of their home at Hazel Green (KY) on May 20, 1894, following the big snow that occurred on that date. Shown, back row, from left, are Dr. John Taulbee; daughters, Ida (later Mrs. E. A. Johnson of Hazel Green), Sabina (later Mrs. J. Richmond DeBusk of Grassy Creek (KY)), and Callie Lane, and son, Edward O. Taulbee. In front from left, are daughter, Eliza Lyle; Mrs. Taulbee, and son, Marvin Hargis Taulbee. All of the family, except one daughter, Ida (Mrs. E. A. Johnson) moved to Oklahoma about 1902. The residence was located across State Highway 191 from the main entrance to Hazel Green Academy. Dr. Taulbee was a son of Sen. William Harrison Taulbee of Adele (KY) and the oldest brother of Congressman Will Pres Taulbee. Photo courtesy of Mrs. J. B. Buchanan of Hazel Green. Mrs. Buchanan, Now 98, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Johnson and the first grandchild born to Dr. and Mrs. Taulbee.

As mentioned in the caption, the original of this picture still hangs in the home of my grandmother who passed away at 101 in 1996. My uncle (Roger Buchanan) still lives in the house.
