W. A. CLARK
Promoter of the Arethusa Springs

     The Arethusa Springs are situated
one-half mile from New Lexington,
Ohio, on land originally purchased
from the Government in 1812, by John
Fowler, the grandfather of the present
owner. A professor of one of the
eastern colleges visited the spring's
years ago and upon taking a drink of
the water exclaimed "Arethusa," since
which time they have been known by
that name. Arethusa, according to
Greek and Roman mythology, was a
f:amous fountain near Syracuse, on the
island of Sicily, presided over by a
nymph of the same name.
Mr. Fowler reared a large family
without sickness of any kind among
the children.
In years gone by, numerous per-
sons used water from the springs, and
were restored to health without
thought of anything more than its re-
markable pureness. Its medicinal
properties were not discovered till
1907.
Mr. W. A. Clarke, who had pre-
viously been spending his summers at
health resorts in different parts of the
country, became convinced that the
springs possessed health-giving prop-
erties of remarkable degree and at
once entered into an agreement with
the owner for the promotion of same.
     The grounds including springs, bath-
ing pool, sand baths, tennis court, and
basket ball grounds have been inclosed,
and physical appliances of all kinds
supplied.
The future success of the springs is
assured, and there is life and health to
all who feel it is worth their while to
keep the body and mind in perfect
balance.
     The following letter was received
from Benedict Lust, editor and pro-
prietor of "The Naturopath" and
"Herald of Health," the official organ
of the Naturopathic Societies of
America:
New York City, July 7, 1908.
Mr. W. A. Clarke, New Lexington, O.

My dear Mr. Clarke;---I am glad to
hear that you have had the courage to
start a Jungborn. Such a thing is
much easier done in a small town than
in a city, where property is too high.
Every little town in Germany has a
Jungborn, where the people have the
benefit of the light and air and sun
bath, the natural bath, whole bath, the
plunge, rain bath, sand bath and clay
packs, and outdoor swimming.
New Lexington can be made famous
from such an undertaking, and if you
have the right kind of people behind
you in this venture, you will make a
grand success.
