Georgetown and Scott County Museum
800 Cincinnati Pike
Georgetown, KY
(502) 863-1575

The town, originally known as Lebanon, Virginia, was built in the vicinity of the Big Spring or Royal Spring, and settled in the early days by a number of Baptists led by Reverend Elijah Craig. Rev. Craig, with his entreprenurial spirit, dabbled in many enterprises including paper and whiskey making. The ever-flowing and productive spring played a part in both of these ventures. The Georgetown and Scott County Museum has several displays relating to the Rev. Craig, as well as his activities. One of the newest displays is a lighted, scale model of an early whiskey still, handmade by Museum board member David Kenley. The Museum is housed at Cardome, a former monastery building designed for the Sisters of the Visitation in 1900. Cardome is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In this setting, ordinarily on the third Monday of each month, the Museum presents historical programs which are open to the public.

Regular Museum hours are: Mon. - Fri. 9:00 - 4:00.

This spring, the largest in Kentucky - at 27 million gallons of water a day - has been the source of the city's water since 1775. The park is open year around, and the log cabin is:
