Edward worked as a yeastmaker and a distillery worker for Fleischmann's Yeast Company, Southside Ave., in Sedamsville. He also worked for a Adam Meyer's Coal Company as a scaleman (weighing coal). In later years, he worked as a machine operator for a Diamond Alkalt Company on Paddock Rd. in Bond Hill. This company had pipelines that ran to the Proctor & Gamble Company which they would send chemicals over for their soaps, etc.

After Stella's daughter Helen passed away on July 4 , 1925 she insisted on her being buried in Maple Grove cemetery. She wanted the grave site as close as possible to her. Stella would visit Helen's grave site almost everyday the rest of her life.

Stella died on October 28, 1933 at the age of 51 years, and 26 days. She was rushed to the hospital because her gald bladder burst. She went home after being released from the hospital. A couple of days later she died of a heart attack (toxic myocarditis) which was considered her cause of death. ARGO Funeral Home in Cleves, Ohio handled the funeral and burial services. She was buried in Maple Grove cemetery in Cleves, Ohio.

Edward lived as a widower for almost thirty-one years. After Stella's death, he left for about five years. His whereabouts was unknown to the family. While he was gone, he may have remarried but this cannot be confirmed. This became a concern when Edward passed away because some family members feared the woman may attempt to claim his body.

Edward was very independent, a free spirit. He enjoyed his drink. He was well liked and well known around town. Everybody knew him as "Pop".

For many years he rented a camp site down by the Little Miami river. Many of the Kruse's would spent time there visiting him and enjoying the view. Also, they held a Kruse family reunion once a year. They held one more reunion the year after Edward's death.

In the later years he lived with his daughter Louise and her family at 620 Baurichter St. in Riverside. When his doctor informed him he had only a short time to live, he chose to leave the hospital and go home.

Edward died on August 30, 1964 at the age of 82 years, 6 months, 14 days. The cause of death was cancer (Metastasis sarcoma-left hip) and senility for a 15 year duration.  I have been informed by family members that he was alert, sharp, and of sound mind until his death. Vitt & Stermer Funeral Home in Delhi handled the funeral services. Edward is buried next to his wife Stella in Maple Grove cemetery, Cleves, Ohio.
