Dear Teddy Noye,

I found a list of Dilleys in PA compiled by someone from PA Archives before 1800. The absence of Deriah Dilley's parents from the 1790 and 1800 censuses, plus their absence from the Archives suggest that they may not have lived in PA very long if ever, or they would have appeared.

I have just completed my second Census, Book 11, compilation of about 1500 Dilley names mostly in early generations before 1900. There are 76 pages of census records and 17 pages in the index list of names. My first Census Book I has 71 pages of census records and 12 pages of double columns in the index. There are a few repetitions to put clans together for all the census years.

I scarcely know what to advise you on your ancestor Deriah Dilley and his parents. Most migrations west of the Ohio River did not occur until after 1800 when new states were established. I find hardly any Dilleys in New England during the l8th and 19th centuries, certainly no clans of any size. There were quite a few in New York, but they mostly came from NJ and Luzerne Co., PA. There is no compilation for the Luzerne Co. clan, but I have considerable data on them including census records, and there is no sign of Deriah there. Ephraim Dilley b 1755 established a very large number of descendants in Guernsey Co., OH where he arrived from Fayette Co. PA in 1814. He is the Earpham on your list, and Nathan is Matthew or really Matthias.

I note that Deriah was listed as Dilla in the 1830 census which I could have overlooked. Your list of Dilles in PA is interesting, and I have census records for all but Springfield, Lancaster, Northhampton and Bedford counties in PA in the PA Archives list; these were not on the census lists. You have done a lot of work getting these census indices for Dilleys in PA. I recognize all the rest of the Dilleys in PA on your list.

I remain with my Apple IIe computer, and with no intention of getting on the Internet. If you find important records there, I would appreciate knowing about them.

Sincerely yours,

"Andy"
