Our Dilley brickwall is Deriah John Dilley, born 1797, in PA,
parents thus far unknown to us (Teddy, Martha and me). There is
the possibility, though with no proof, that he might have been
a son of Caleb named Daniel who was supposed to have left for
California in 1849 and was never heard from again. Our Deriah
did just that, leaving from Iowa Co. WI in 1849. His name appears
in documents as Derial or Dariel, and you all know how often names
were miswritten or misspelled......maybe he just ended up going
along with it??
Deriah John Dilley, born 1797, Pennsylvania
M. Almira Jameson about 1822 in PA
Children:
Fisher S. b. 1823 in PA
Stuart b. abt. 1824?? Note: We wonder if these two could have
been
the same person, as we don't see mention of Fisher S. for many
years until he shows up in the Los Angeles Co. voters register
in 1866 along with Deriah, but neither is in the 1870 census in
that area. Stuart then shows up in 1869 in Utah where he gets
married!
Sarah Ann b. 1825 Delaware Co. OH d. 1857 San Jose CA
Barbara Jane b. 1828 " " " d. 1850 Sauk Co. WI
M. Richard Tregaskis 1845
Stephen Barnes b. 1833 " "
Gilbert B. b. 1835 " " "
George W. b. 1838 " " "
In late 1838 the family was in the Mineral Point area,
Iowa Co, WI. In 1843 Deriah and Almira were divorced. Sarah Ann
married Asabel (Asael) Bennett in 1840, had children George, Melissa
and Martha (from whom Teddy and I are descended), and left with
her husband and children for California in1849. Deriah left at
the same time, but is not mentioned in any of the histories of
their travels. He is listed in the El Dorado Co. CA 1850 census
with the Bennett family, however, and also was in the Watsonville
area with them where they had son John and daughter Barbara Ellen
(from whom Martha descends). Then he went to Los Angeles Co. and
became a teacher in El Monte, where he was listed in 1863 and
in 1865/66, but seems to disappear thereafter.
Stuart married Mary Elizabeth Meredith in Utah in 1869
and had sons Samuel and James and daughter Mary Elizabeth "Annie".
We haven't found any death record for him yet.
Stephen was a U.S.Assistant Marshal in WI in 1860.
By 1870 he was in Rocky Bar, Alturas Co., Idaho, where he became
a Probate Judge. In 1873 he married Rosetta Sidebotham. He is
listed in the 1880 census there, but we have no further information
as to family or his death.
We know little about Gilbert or George, except that
they are listed in the 1860 census as living with Almira in Sauk
Co., WI, along with Stephen and a Daniel D. Dilley, age 48, born
in Ohio, who could have been a cousin of Deriah's.
So it seems we have a brickwall at the top of our family
and a few more down lower........any helpful clues gratefully
welcomed!!

I am researching the line of Aaron (New Jersey), Ephraim (New
Jersey,Fayette Co., Pa. and Guernsey Co., Ohio), Joseph (same),
James R. (GuernseyCo., Noble Co., Carroll Co., Oh.), Ethan Allen
Allen (Carroll Co.) My new years resolution is to sort out what
happened to the real estate acquired by Ephraim and Joseph in
Guernsey Co., Ohio in 1815 - I believe this is the key to documenting
the heirs of Ephraim and Joseph. I would also like to figure out
if there is any truth to the family legend that Aaron's wife,
Hannah Perry was related to Oliver Hazard Perry, hero of the War
of 1812. Any help will be appareciated.

I am looking to fill in the descendents of Hiram Worthington Dille
and his wife Alvina Robinson or Robbison.
Hiram Worthington Dille was born on June 18, 1814 in Euclid, Cuyahoga
Co.,
OH to Daivd Dille Jr. (1752-1797) and Mary Polly Sailor/Saylor
(1777-1851). He married Alvina Robinson or Robbison on December
24, 1837 in Lake Co., IN. She was born about 1816 probably in
KY.
In 1850, they are listed on the Iroquois Co, IL census with 5
children:
Harriet E. Dille, born abt 1839, IL*
Delphi A. Dill, born abt 1842, IL*
Mary A. Dille, born abt 1845, IL*
**John Henry Dilley, born Nov 2, 1848 in IL
Charles C. Dilley, born abt May 1850, IL*
*per census
**I have extensive info on the descendents of John Henry Dilley,
who is my great-grandfather. I also believe I have located his
younger brother Charles in Iowa. John Henry Dilley married Sarah
Jane Cale on Feb 27, 1877
in Adams Co., IA and they both died in late 1933 in Grant City,
Worth Co., MO.
I have (thanks to the gracious sharing of other cousins) ancestory
on Sarah Jane Cale, wife of John Henry Dilley and on Mary Polly
Sailor/Saylor wife of David Dille, Jr.
I would like to trace the other children and their descendents.
Thank you in advance for any info that you care to share.

I'm researching my grandfather, Charles Dille and his line out
of Mt. Victory, Ohio. I have to admit I haven't really put it
together, because I was hoping that my mother and my uncle Don
Dille would do the searching and have the satisfaction that we
all find in researching our ancestors and heritage. But their
interest hasn't been fueled enough and they are afraid to try
using a computer.
So by this point, I'm ready to begin compiling and
charting the line. Anyone who is more closely related to my line
and have ancestors from this line (David Dille) and would like
to pass along more info on the Mt. Victory Dilles, I would welcome
your help and input. I have the info from the book, "300
Years of Dilles in America". Thanks and welcome to all the
new members...this is a great group. But then...of course they
would be...they're all Dilles, Dilleys or relatives of Dilles.
Good stock.

records are that this daughter is named Caroline Ella not Barbara
Ellen. She was given up to a family named Scott of Scotts Valley,
out of Santa Cruz, CA and in 1860 is listed as Caroline. In 1880
she is again living with the Scotts and is 26 years old and listed
as their adopted daughter, living with them as a boarder with
her children. I don't know where her husband was at this time
as I know that he died later and are back together in 1920. Her
marriage, unfortunately, lists her as Ella Scott

Hi, this is my initial post to the DILLEY(& DILLE)
mailing list. My connection to the DILLE name is through Mary
DILLE who is my third great grandmother.
The information I have so far on Mary is very sketchy.
Even the spelling of her last name is unsure. All I am aware of
is that she was married to a John PRINGLE and according to the
1860 and 1870 census listing for Andrew PRINGLE (he's noted below)
she was born in Canada.
John and Mary had Andrew PRINGLE, b.1837 or 1838 in
Canada (according to census records), d.14 Feb 1932, Wexford Co.,
MI (m.Frances Amelina HAINES in 1860). They may have had other
children as well.
Any further clues on Mary's family would be appreciated.
We have information on descendents through the PRINGLE line we're
more than willing to share.
Thanks, Ron Lance

My brother is Jay Andrews. The Thanksgiving card you
made for him was great.
Although I can get lots of information from my brother, I still
search for new information. I am studying William Dilley -born

I'm searching for David Dille, born 1685 in South Carolina.
Also searching for the family ancestors reported to be French
Huguenots, went to Scotland, then to Jamaica, later to Charleston,
S.C. This is the line that our line of the family has
connected us to. I'm also on three different rootswebs for Alsalce
Lorraine, France and two others recently added looking for connections.
Also Huguenot rootsweb and Belgium rootsweb. I've found current
Dille's and De'Lilles living in Belgium,
some in Brugge and some in Antwerp among others.
