September 2007 Roll Call

Earl K. Dille

Teddy...this is a great idea.

My line...

John Dille of Woodbridge, b. ca. 1645
John Dille Jr.
David Dille b. 1718
Caleb Dille b. 1759
Noadiah Dille
David Morris Dille
George Earl Dille
Me

I've been at this since about 1960, and the book my folks and I wrote (300
Years) has a lot of imperfections, some of which have been corrected by Jay
Andrews (bless him) and my cousin David L. Dille (old dog); also nicely
indexed and put into your website.

My biggest frustration has been to find out more (like parents) about Mary
Elizabeth Wade, who married David Dille b. 1718. I came up with one theory a
few years ago, but David L. Dille soon proved me wrong. Whether or not David
had a wife before Elizabeth remains a mystery.

Also I can't buy the often repeated claim that John Dille of Woodbridge was
the son of Capt. George Dill(e). I simply have never seen any proof of that.
One of our problems is that a bad theory is often repeated by many of the
genealogical folks and businesses on the web.

Through the years I've pretty much accepted that a lot of the Dilleys are
descended from John Jr. and his son Ichabod b. ca. 1724, who was a
half-brother to David b. 1718. I've concentrated pretty much on David's
descendants, and God knows there are a lot of people in that line alone.

One thing I'm working on now is a list of Dilles who died in the Civil War.
I've attached an Excel file on that; if anyone has additional info, please
let me know. Louis Dille, son of Usual Dille, Washington PA, is buried at
Gettysburg under that name, but I think it likely that his first name was
spelled Lewis, same as his grandfather. The government makes a lot of
mistakes too.

Keep up the fine work!

I am new at this. Not even sure how I was able to get on this Dilley list but glad I am on since I come from the Dilley line.

I probably signed up while doing research one evening. Anyway:

My mother is Marian Dilley of Pocahontas County, West Virginia;

My grandfather is Vency Floyd Dilley (born 9/13/1894, died 5/3/1963; married to Bessie Virginia McElwain) ;

My greatgrandfather is Charles Harmon Dilley (born 1870, died 11/15/1954, married on 11/15/1893 to Margaret Matilda Sharp).

I think Charles Harmon Dilley is the son of Josiah (or Joseph?) Dilley and Mary Ann Friel (who may have settled on Greenbrier River) but not certain.

I don't have any proof - just internet research.

All lived in the Pocahontas County West Virginia area. My line seems to come from the Dilley line that settled in Bath County, VA.

This is all I can add. I have young children and very little time to research.

I look forward to the day I can devote more time to it for my sake and theirs.

And am certainly grateful for the work everyone has done before me from which I can benefit.

Regards,

Pam Green
