He died in 1864. Ch i I dren (al I b at Senecaville). There is a puzzle about Katherine who appeared in the 1850 and 1860 censuses with her father Robert, and had children as late as 1864, but Stephen Dennison did not die until 1864 according to the record. He did not appear in Robert's family. I suspect that he was disabled in some way.

3-47 ROBERT A. DILLEY SON OF ROBERT SR.

Robert Dilley, son of Robert Sr. and Hannah (McDonald) Dilley, moved to Guthrie, Co., IA in 1856, then to Leadville, CO for the 1861 gold rush. He got mountain fever and went home. He served four years and 19 days in Co. C. 4th Iowa Infantry, and was wounded in the hand at the battle of Pea Ridge. He was with Sherman on the march to the sea. He sold machinery in MN and WI, then went to OK in the fall of 1889 (Payne Co.). He married Lucinda E. Gimer in Payne Co. She was from McCartha, Vinton Co., OH and had homesteaded in OK. They went to Orlando in 1896? See biography.

He moved to Chanka?, MN and engaged in the hotel business and served during his residence there as sheriff of Carver Co. He was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives for two terms. Later he moved to St Paul and resumed the hotel business. Children:

Hannah Elizabeth Dilley b I Jan 1854 at Phoenix, MS d 3 Aug 1888 at Phoenix. She was a dau of Sameul and Charlotte (Usher) Dilley. She m Edward Carpenter b 6 Sep 1857 near Oak Ridge, Warren Co., MS. Children: (all born in Mississippi at Oak Ridge or Phoenix)

Note: Minnie Carpenter, who was divorced and took back her maiden name, was qenealo ist for the Ephraim Dilley clan and many others. Her mother Hannah was a school teacher before her marriage. She died from lung trouble (tuberculosis). Minnie lived near Salt Lake City working in a spinning factory, but found much time for correspondence on Dilley genealogy.

Note: After living at Oak Ridge and Phoenix for births of all children except Tom, Wm Edward Carpenter moved to Dallas, TX where Tom was born. Wm Edward was a motorcycle policeman and later attended a medical school in Chicago, and he became a chiropodist and lived at Beaumont, Texas.

Ephraim M. Dilley was b 16 Aug 1858, d 20 Mar 1952, the son of Bulkley and Jemima Shaw of Senecaville, OH. He married Clara B. Duoan, b Jan 1862, a widow with three young children. The record of their children from this late marriage (late 90s) is
found in the 1900 census record as follows:

4-11 JAMES L. DILLEY, SON OF JOSEPH VALENTIME DILLEY

James L. Dilley was born in Mar 1841 (age 59 in 1900 census) at Senecaville, OH. He died in 1921 at Senecaville and is buried there. He m at Maxburg, Washinoton Co., OH, Clara A. Miller, b 1850 d 1944. Before his marriage, he was a Union soldier for four years, and lost a leg only 3 days before Lee's surrender. He was a jeweler in Muskingum Co., OH for 8 years, and then he moved back to Senecaville, where he continued that profession from 1880 to 1908 when he retired. A detailed biography is given in the History of Guernsey Co., OH, by Cyrus B. Sarchet, Vol. 1, 1911. Their children were: (Sarah, Frances, Joseph, Lillie, Inez, Helen, all deceased by 1911) See the biography of James L. Dilley p 26.

Noah Lovejoy Hill was b 20 Sep 1858, d 20 Jun 1922, the youngest child of Dr. Noah Lovejoy Hill Sr., and Jane Wilson (McCleary) Hill at Senecaville. He was m 27 Sep 1883 by Rev. Milligan to Mary Foreman. She d 3 Aug 1906.

George W. Holsman was b 14 Jan 1843 near Senecaville, d 9 Jun 1911. He was a corporal during the Civil War from 1862 to 1865. He was a member of the Baptist church. He m in 1869 in Dallas Co., IA, Caroline Elizabeth Felton. All his children were educated in the public schools of Center Co., IA. He was a member of the Masons and DAR. Their children were:

He was a soldier in the Civil War from 1862-1865, a member of the GAR, and retired farmer and lives at Emmett, ID. Hannah b at Senecaville, was a member of WRC, and the Christian church.
