Yo, I'm over here in California! Still trying to find a dad
for my Deriah
John Dilley who was born 1797 in PA. We have it narrowed down
to either
Jonathan or Adam Dilley, both sons of Richard Dilley Sr. JUST
RECENTLY
learned Adam Dilley left PA for Cayuga Co., NY in 1805, appears
there on the
1810 census, and is still alive in a land doc in 1812. He has
some kind of
connections to the Willard and Timothy GREEN families. Does that
ring any
bells for anyone?
Anyone else??

Me, too, in SoCal.....sort of following Teddy around gleaning
the good things
she's found lately! And thanks to Natalie (I think it was) in
Utah who gave
Ted some tidbits recently....I appreciate having them passed along
very much.
Been busier tracing out some information about husband Bob's
Stapletons in
Wisconsin....recently got e-mail from a helpful man whose wife
is descended
from a sister of Bob's g-grandfather whom we never knew about.
Really nice
of him to share information...I could give him some too, which
I can't always
do (like with the Dilley side!!)
Happy holidays to everyone, in case I don't post again before Christmas!

Here's another one for the list.
This is Charlene [Boak] Dilley, wife of Courtney G. Dilley, living
in
Yuma, AZ. We grew up in S/W WI and I am searching the Dilley's
of that
area. Would like to spend more time as a genealogist but just
haven't
been able to get back into the swing of things since our vacation
this
summer. Thanks to Ruth Hanson Dilley for putting the obituary
of Rodney
Dilley on the list. Rodney was my husbands younger Brother. Closing
for
now but have lots of questions coming up . Understand there's
cousins in
CA.

I saw somewhere (in someone's message?? not sure...) that there
are Dilleys
someplace on the east or southeast side of L.A. County, but the
source
escapes me. Here I am also in CA, a few hours away from Teddy,
with whom I
spent a great weekend recently, along with her mother and two
aunts (my first
cousins on mother's side). We share old Deriah Dilley through
his daughter
Sarah Ann Dilley Bennett....but he seems to float about in space,
with no
certain proved relation to any other Dilleys, drat the man!!

My husband's family is DILLY (no "E"), but we have
found the spelling extremely
variable. Your message attracted my attention because of the given
names
of a number of the people. Martin, Jacob, and William are names
that appear
in
this DILLY family back through the earliest generations (1690)
that we
have traced. My husband's GGgrandfather Johan Jacob Dilly (1810-1890)
came
to New York from Wolfstein, Germany, and later to northern Illinois.
During
the past several months, I have made contact with a cousin named
Martin
Dilly from the same area of Germany, and he confirmed by church
records
the connection between his ancestor and our Johan Jacob. Martin's
direct
line has always stayed in the same geographical area where he
lives today.
It seems possible from the names that your group is connected
also. Do
you have any information about origins of your Martin? I have
considerable
information about this family, if anyone would like to contact
me directly.
I would love to share facts and theories. Email me at dillys@madisontelco.com.

Hi Troy. I am a descendent of the Dilley family it seems. I have been searching high and low for the information that you have here. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled onto this site today!
I am a Granddaughter to Leroy Crowder and Esther Richmond. Page 106-110. Earl Fred Crowder was my Great-Grandfather. I was very surprised that you had the information for my uncle Jackie Crowder. But, Leroy and Esther had 2 daughters also. Joyce and Janetta. Jackie is the youngest. I am Joyce's daughter. I would like to see our names included in this book also. If you are interested please feel free to e-mail me at Summer1145@hotmail.com.
I will wait on pins and needles! I am soooo excited about this as I had almost given up hope of putting my ancestors all together.
What a great Christmas gift for my mother! Thank you so much!

Hi,
Rick Novak here from northern California. Lorrie Crompton and
I are third
cousins twice removed so we share a common Dilley interest. Our
common
ancestors are Aaron Chester Dilley and his wife Sarah Ann Shurts.
Anyone
else researching Dilleys of Hunterdon County, NJ? We are especially
interested in trying to figure out who Aaron Chester Dilley's
mother was.
She may have been a 'Polley' Churchell who was apparently married
to Aaron
Chester's father Aaron Jonathan Dilley in 1798 at the Zion Lutheran
Church of
Germantown (now Oldwick) in Hunterdon County.
Cheers,
Rick Novak

My interest in the Dilley family lies in John Dilley, Jr.,
son of Johannes
and Catharine Dilley. John Dilley, Jr., b. 13 May 1774 Shenandoah
Co., VA.
Married Elizabeth Acklin 24 Dec 1794 Bath Co., VA.
The last mention I find of John Dilley, Jr. is in 1809 Greenbrier
Co., VA,
when he was bound for public trial and charged with felony.
His wife, Elizabeth, was arrested the following year for being
a person of
ill fame, along with her "lover" William Blair.
This leads me to wonder if Abner Dilley (1814-1903) and Diana
(Dilley) Fitzer
(1818-1885) were children of John Jr.'s?? It has been established
that
Katharine (1810-aft 1880) was the daughter of William Blair, and
not John
Dilley, Jr.
When and where did John Dilley, Jr. die?

I have a grandfather and grandmother who were married in Ironton,
Ohio, but
we always felt they just went there to be married. They were from
West
Virginia, or so we thought. Do you know anything about a Joseph
Winfield
Dilley from your research, who married Annie Amazon Morrison?
The date was
Aug. 24, 1903. Ironton is on their marriage certificate. Would
appreciate
the help, if you have any.
Thanks, Sharon Dilley Wyant, from WV to PA

I'm still reading all the wonderful notes and love the tips
on websites.
I found some great things (non-Dillie) on the ancestry.com tip
that Ted
gave us. Thanks!
I did run into Bob Jordon when I was in Indiana at the State
Library. I
saw that he had signed in early that morning and had to run around
asking every man if they were Bob! That is a great place and 2
hours
wasn't enough. I have finally finished my Jones project and almost
finished Thornburgs (they married my Dillie in Randolph Co. IN)
so now I
am ready to start entering all my Dillie references in January.
I did
manage to interview a person I found in the phone book in Winchester,
IN
whose grandfather Dillie was a brother of my grandfather and sorted
out
more of those cousins.
I also found another Jay county reference to my elusive Aaron,
but same
thing, no body knew anything about him except he was the first
resident
of his township. I am still waiting on the pension and civil war
records of AJ Dillie who was William H. Harrison Dillie's brother.
I
also ordered Harrison's death certificate to get his mother's
name, but
they still haven't sent it -2 months later. I thought going in
person
might help since doing it my mail hadn't worked, but I am beginning
to
doubt that. At least they haven't cashed either check.
Keep writing.

I am so sorry but I know so little about the Dilley line. My husband
knew that his father was John Peyton Dilley .period. his step
father
was Hal B. Walters{Waters] well I have found that step father
and Dad
were half brothers . If he knew this fact he never mentioned it.
He
knew nothing of his Paternal line and only that his Mothers parents
were
Jesse and Arminta Thompson Gore. . This is what I have on the
Dilley's going from my husband back in lineage
Don Carlos Dilley b. 1912 Harts Creek WV d. 1975 Columbus ,Ms.
John Peyton Dilley b,1876, Lawrence Co, Oh.{this is according
to the
census of 1880 d,1918 Harts Creek ,WV.
m, Jeruah Gore 1911 they had 4 sons all b. in WV.
John W Dilley b.1851 Lawrence Co. Oh. d ca.1881 Cabell Co. WV.
m. Lucy Justice
Luther Dilley 1819 PA?Va d. 1871 married 3 times the first was
to
Margaret Waller this is my John W Dilley's parents and there I
have
stopped. As I said Luther's grandson Wm E. Dilley of Ironton ,Oh
wrote
that Luther or Luke's father was James and born in Pa. this gentleman
was 70 years of age in 1964 but seemed to know what he was writing
about , And he also mentioned he used the family bible for some
of the
records.Wish I could ive you more information but as you see I
am
hunting needles in the haystack.

My interest follows along much the same line as Lynnea's.
I am interested
in information on John Dilley, Sr. and Elizabeth Acklin's son
Barnett Dilley
b. 23 Feb 1801 Greenbriar Co., VA d. 26 Jul 1866 Daviess Co.,
MO m. Minerva
Cooper on 20 Dec 1825. My interest in this family splits two
ways through
their son, Henry Dilley and daughter, Delila A. Dilley. At the
moment, I
would be really interested in any information regarding Henry
Dilley's
daughter, Dora or her husband James D. Brinnen (ie. Where in Iowa
was he
born?).
Any help is greatly appreciated!
