Dear Teddy,

I am pleased to receive an update on Deriah John Dilley, your ancestor. I am glad to know about your activity on the Internet with Dilley genealogy. I am 82 years of age now and barely able to operate my 1985 Apple Ile computer. I have some 80 floppy disks full of Dilley data mostly. I have compiled 6 books of 100 to 150 pages on early Dilleys of all clans. These are: Price Dilley my ancestor; David Sr. 3 versions; New Jersey Dilleys, a compilation of published records not lists of families; Lewis Dilley, a probable son of Ichabod, whose descendents still live in Wash. Co., PA; my William Dilley clan, his descendents up to about 1930; VA Dilleys not related to NJ clans; and Richard Dilley of Luzerne Co., PA.

I have census records for most Dilleys from N.J. to Iowa and some for bordering states north and south of middle USA to the Mississippi River. I have census records for VA and W. VA too. There were few Dilleys in New England or southern states in early generations. I have few census records west of Kansas and Missouri. I know that you have a lot of census records too.

I found your John Dilley family in Delaware Co., OH, who I suspected was a son of Jonathan and a grandson of Richard Dilley. His 1830 census was as follows: 1 2 - 2 1 - I / - - I - I I. If you found the name Deriah at the Delaware, OH site for this John, I have mistaken him as John of the Richard clan who moved west by steps to Minnesota where he and two brothers became properous farmers. I have quite a lot of records for this Richard clan but no full compilation or book. This is the only major clan that I have not covered in my book compilations.

There are copies of my Dilley books at LDS, although the latest versions may not be microfilmed yet. If you come across my VA account, let me know. A lady has held my copy for filming some 5 years hoping for local photography. Two co-authors have copies and Marvin U. Hill who has one is on the Internet, and they may have submitted copies to LDS.

I appreciate your request for submission of items on the Internet. I have no objection to use of the letters or parts of my books, but I would appreciate recognition for the material. Too often, I have not put my name on essays which was a mistake. Ruth Dilley sends me info from Internet activity, and I would appreciate the same courtesy from you when convenient. I have had very little correspondence the last few years which I suppose is partly caused by the Internet genealogical research.

I had speculated that the John Dilley of Delaware Co., OH was the son of Jonathan of the Richard clan on his way to Minnesota in later years. However, this John was born in 1808 which means he could not have had such a family by 1830. This also means that Deriah John Dilley could not have been from the Richard Dilley clan with his early birth. We do know the major families of the Richard clan with the early generations from published accounts.

Sincerely yours,

"Andy"
