He was a Master Mariner, British Mercantile Service. From 1855-1864 he sailed the clipper ship 'Oriental', built in Falmouth, Cornwall in 1846 by the N. Burns Co., and owned by Rawles. It's 'Port of Belonging' was Plymouth, and when it was surveyed by Lloyds in 1855 it weighed 713 tons. He also captained the "Cap Rouge", (1865 - abandoned 1865), "Fair Wind" (1866-67) and the "Jessie Boyle" (1868) ex Plymouth. These trips were mostly to North America, the West Indies, the Cape and the Baltic.87,89 He lived at 196 Ventotuna Lane, Padstow, Cornwall, in 1851.86 He lived at 5 Silver St., Roath (near Cardiff), Wales, in 1886.88
