My great-great-grandfather was Andrew Thompson, a blacksmith, who came to Canada from Ireland as a boy during the Great Famine. He met his wife Eliza Mitchell (another Irish immigrant) here, and the two settled in Simcoe County, Ontario. They eventually had ten children, all of whom are documented here. Their story is typical of 19th century pioneers in south-central Ontario.
