Lieutenant Commander Caro was born in Coronado, California. A 1993 graduate of the University of Southern California, he received his commission through the Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps program and was designated a Naval Aviator upon completion of flight training in August 1996.
Lieutenant Commander Caro began his Naval Aviation service flying the SH-60B Seahawk assigned to The Proud Warriors (HSL 42). During his three-year initial tour, Lieutenant Commander Caro deployed to the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas, and the Arabian Gulf embarked in USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58) and USS Monterey (CG 61). While assigned to HSL 42, Lieutenant Commander Caro served as Detachment Administration, Training, and Operations Officer.
Lieutenant Commander Caro’s next assignment was Flight Instructor duty with The Seahawks (HSL 41), the west coast Fleet Replacement Squadron for the SH-60B. There he served as Training Schedules Officer, Assistant Operations Officer and ATO Phase Officer.
He then was assigned with USS Peleliu (LHA 5) where he started off as the Hangar Deck Officer and then became the Assistant Air Officer (Mini Boss). He is proud to have supported the first Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG-1) both up in the tower and on the bridge where he earned his Officer Of the Deck, underway qualification.
Lieutenant Commander Caro was then assigned to The Scorpions (HSL 49), stationed at NAS North Island, CA. There he served as the Safety Officer, Training Officer, and Operations Officer. In addition, he was Detachment FOUR’s Officer in Charge embarked in USS Ingraham (FFG-61). They deployed to the Mediterranean and Red Seas, Somali Coast and Arabian Gulf in support of the Global War on Terror.
Currently, Lieutenant Commander Caro is stationed at Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. He is enrolled in the Undersea Warfare Program and will earn a Master’s Degree in Physical Oceanography and complete Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.
Lieutenant Commander Caro’s awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign decorations.
