Second Lieutenant Joseph J Porrazzo USMCR

Second Lieutenant Joseph J Porrazzo is a native of Northridge, California. He attended Montclair Prparatory High School in Van Nuys, California. He joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1992, and graduated basic training as a Private First Class. Shortly thereafter, he completed Helicopter Crew Chief School and served as a Crew Member logging over 1,000 flight hours aboard CH-53 helicopers in both training and tactical squadrons.

At the rank of Sergeant, Second Lieutenant Porrazzo was accepted into the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) in May 1995. He graduated with a bachelor's degree with University Honor Magna Cum Laude and Departmental Honors in Political Science from the University of Southern California.

In the course of his college careet, Second Lieutenant Porrazzo made the Dean's List every semester, was accepted into four academic honor societies, and received the outstanding senior recognition award from the University of Southern California.

As an intricate member of the Trojan Battalion, Second Lieutenant Porrazzo has held the billets of Mustering Petty Officer, Volunteer Officer, Athletics Officer, and finally as Battalion Commander during the 1999 spring semester. His unit awards include the Academic Star, Academic Excellence, Professor of Naval Science Award, Physical Fitness, Volunteer, and the Dadaelion Foundation Scholarship awards.

In the course of his enlisted career, he achieved the rank of Sergeant through three meritorious promotions. He has been awarded the National Defense Medal, two Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, Sea Service ribbon, and two Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the second of which was awarded for his performance as Battalion Commander.

Second Lieutenant Porrazzo received his commission on May 14, 1999, and will report to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia and subsequently to Flight Training School in Pensacola, Florida for Naval Pilot training.
