Biography:
From The Log October 2002
On 22 Dec 2001, two former USC NROTC Battalion Commanders were married, in what has to be
a "first" for USC, if not for the entire nationwide NROCT program? LRJG Chris Lutgendorf
(USC 1999) and ENS Monica Snipes (USC 2000) both having been Battalion Commanders during
their senior years at SC, tied the knot in an impressive military wedding at Mission San Luis
Rey in Oceanside, California.
At the time of the wedding, Chris was just finishing up as a Surface Warfare Officer on the USS
BENFOLD (DDG-65) homeported in San Diego, where he qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer. Chris
put this training to good use on deployment to the Arabian Gulf, searching ships for illegal
Iraqi oil and contraband material, as part of the CONSTELLATION carrier battle group. Currently he is the
Navigator on the USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC-20), the Second Fleet Amphibious Command ship, homeported in
Norfolk, VA.
Monica continues as a third year medical student at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences
in Bethesda, MD. After graduation "Doctor" Snipes will be advanced to LT and be assigned in the fleet
as a Medical officer.
