Biography:

Bryan Barber is a native of Detroit, MI. He graduated from Henry Ford II High School in 1991. Thile he was in high school, Bryan Barber was an active participant in football, track, and cross-country.

Upon graduation, he enlist in the Marine Corps in October 1991 and graduated boot camp in January 1992. After graduation, Private Barber attended Marine Combat Training (MCT), Camp Pendleton CA. Immediately following completion of MCT, he reported to Personnel Administration School. Upon completion, Private First Class Barber was designated as a Personnel Administration Clerk (0121).

Private First Class Barber's first duty assignment was with 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA, as a service record book clerk. In December 1992, he was promoted to Lance Corporal. During his tenure with 1/5, he deployed in May 1993 to Okinawa JA and was assigned to the 31st MEU. While deployed, he visited Hong Kong, Singapore, and Perth, Australia.

In July 1994, he was promoted to Corporal and assigned the duties of assistant Service Record Book Chief. In August of 1994, he deployed to Washington and Montana to fight forest fires with the U. S. Forest Service, as part of Operation Wild Fire.

In September 1994, Corporal Barber attended Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, CA, and completed the summer warfare package. In May 1995, he was deployed to Okinawa, JA, for duty with the 4th Marine Regiment. In April of 1996, Corporal Barber was transferred to the School Of Infantry (SOI), Camp Pendleton, CA.

Corporal Barber assumed the duties as Service Record Book Chief upon reporting to SOI. He became the on-site liaison for all Active Reserve Marines (AR) and Headquarters Marine Corps. In March 1997, he was accepted to the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP). In May 1997, he was transferred to MECEP Prep School, MCRD, San Diego, CA.

Upon graduation, he was transferred to the Naval ROTC at the University of Southern California and promoted to his present rank of Sergeant. Brian Barber was a valuable member of the Trojan Battalion. He held numerous billets to include: JNROTC Drill Meet Coordinator, responsible for 31 schools with 1300 students. In addition, he was tasked as the primary officer for the security detachment of the General Collin Powell USA (Ret). He also held the billets of Athletics Officer, Assistant Alumni Affairs Officer, Alumni Affairs Officer, and Battalion Executive Officer. In addition, he spent 2 years as a member of the Trojan drill team.

May 11, 2001, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and transferred to The Basic School at Quantico, VA.

In 2002, Bryan reported that is currently stationed at SRD MALS-14, MAG-14, 2MAW, Cherry Point NC and recently married Kelly Varonfakis.

His decorations include: 2 Meritorious Unit Citations, Navy Battle 'E', Good Conduct Medal with one star, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one star.
