1796 Deed, Rockbridge County, Virginia

     This Indenture made the 15th day of September in the year of our
Lord one Thousand seven hundred and ninety six Between Morris Gwyn of
the one part and John Forean of the other part.  Witnesseth that the
said Morris Gwyn for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred
Dollars in hand paid to Bargain & sell unto the said John Forean; his
heirs & assigns a certain tract or parcel of Land in the County of
Rockbridge containing one hundred and Eighty seven acres on the north
end of the hous Mountain on the waters of Kerrs Creek.  Joining the
land of Dennis Conner the patten whereof bares date the twenty second
day of December one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight & Bounded
as followeth to wit;  Beginning at a sugar tree in a branch thence
East twenty poles to a chesnut oak on the top of a high Bank of a run
South twenty degrees East  Crossing a run forty six poles to a large
white oak by a path south thirty degrees east twenty six poles to two
chesnut oaks South ten degrees west two hundred twenty eight poles to a
long chesnut oak on the west end of the South Knob - South fifty two
degrees west one hundred and seven poles to A white Oak  Northwest
sixty one poles to a large double chesnut on the east side of the
North Knob - North twenty one degrees East three hundred & thirty
poles to the Beginning.   together with all the appurtenances
To Have and to hold this land with all its appurtenances  to the
said John Forean, His Heirs or assigns to the
