Descendants of Darby FOREHAND

First Generation


1. Darby FOREHAND was born about 1735. He died on 27 Dec 1777 in camp during Revolutionary War.

The following transcriptions are the only documents linking John FOREHAND to Darby FOREHAND. It is possible that Darby and Elinor had several other sons, namely William and Timothy FOREHAND. Both Timothy and William are mentioned in records of Rockbridge County, Virginia. One of William's sons married one of John's daughters, as proven in the pension application of Rebecca CAMPBELL Forehand.

Darby Forehand of VA enlisted in Captain John McGuire's /Col. Grayson's Regiment in August
1777. He died in camp December 27, 1777.

In the Library of Virginia, Digital Collections, Revoluntionary Lard Warrants:
"Darby FOREHAND - Soldier - Army, Cert.
(1) Capt. Thos. Bell
(2) Joseph Moore & A. Faust, Justices, Rockbridge
as to heir
Memo - John Forean
(See papers 1785) 1783"

Darby married Elenore FOREHAND. Elenore died after 1779.

From "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia" extracted from the original court records of Augusta County 1745-1800, we learn that on May 19, 1779, Elinor Forehand, widow of Darby Forehand, was allowed 20 Pounds to care for her young children.

Darby and Elenore had the following children:

  3 M ii Timothy FOREHAND was born about 1770. He died after 1801.

Bought land in April 2, 1792 in Rockbridge county VA (70 on the House Mnt.); sold the 70 acres in July 3, 1792;
