1. Samuel Bullock was the second son of William and Miriam (Whitney) Bullock, born 16 November 1781 at Guilford, Vermont. He died 16 May 1832 in his 51st year at Abbotsford, Quebec Samuel was married at Battleboro, Vermont on 25 December 1803 to Polly Harris of Brattleboro. She was the daughter of William and Abiah (Brooks) Harris, born 5 October 1784. She died 18 April 1831 at Abbotsford in the 47th year of life. Most of the records found on this family are from the St. Paul d', Abbotsford, Angelican Church Records.
Samuel probably settled in Canada, following his older brother, William, who moved there in 1801. Many Vermont families went to lower Canada when land became available. Stanstead was chartered in 1800 and there were 20,000 acres of land for sale. In 1819, Samuel was of Yamaska Mt., Quebec. in a part later called Abbotsford). By 1824, Samuel was living in Abbottsford, St. Hyacinth District, Quebec and was a physician. Nothing has been found about his education and he may not have gone to a medical school but was taught by another physician which was common in those early days.
The family still seemed to have strong ties to the United States and two of Samuel's sons, Lyman and Lewis moved back to Vermont and both served in the Civil War on the Union side.
