Marriage to Martha is second, he first a lady, who bore no children and died young. We estimate his immigration at about 1826 - 1834. 1850 census shows him as butcher age 40 in Charlottesville.Search of land records in Charlottesville, shows he bought land 8 times 1837-1856 including a butchershop and slaughterhouse (Book 35:330) on corner of Water St. and Crop St. also two house lots and over 100 acres of land. He sold a leather and boot shop to "Eger" in 1853 (Book 54:213), and moved his family about 1857 to Piscattaway, MD. on a large farm. The 1860 census shows him a planter with a cook and teacher in residence. The cook was an older lady named Lindsay. There was a younger family named Linsay in residence next door on rented property. (His Mgr?) Martha named in his will as guardian to her 8 children ages 2 - 17. He apparently died after a long debilitating illness, leaving the farm in sad disrepair. Estate papers show expenditures to repair the farm so that it could be sold. C.H. Schaaff II wrote that his "great grandfather came to the US at age 6."
