1630, freeman 1631, and deputy to the general court for many terms. Was
clerk of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co. 1638-40. surveyor of
Arms 1641-59. recieved a grant of 300 acres for his services; "a man of
estate and distinction, says Savage" Prob immigrated 1629-30.

He married Dorothy May in Holland but she died in Cape Cod Bay. and he m2 Alice (Carpenter) Southworth. He lead the Plymouth colony for a number of years. His journals and histoical writing represent the primary source of the colonial history of the colony. His will is published on the MFIP.
