At the turn of the century, there were numerous boat houses along the Delaware River
from Bridesburg all the way up into Tacony. They were vacation spots for
Philadelphia residents, although there were many full time residents.
The boathouses shown below were along the Delaware River. There were, however,
similar structures on both sides of Wissinoming creek between State Road and the River.
This area was known as Gilmerville.
