Northeastern Theater

The "Northie" was at 6031-39 Torresdale Ave.  It opened in May 1923 as a silent movie theater.  It closed in 1950s and is now a commercial garage.   Having a distinct red decor, the Northie had damask wall sections, red velour valances and red and gold stage curtains.  In the early days of the theater, a Kimball organ and a Cunningham piano provided accompaniment.
