Pumping Station

Lardner's Point Pumping Station was initially known as The Frankford Pumping Station.

An 1877 engineer's sketch showing the route of the 30" water main running from the new Lardner's Point Pumping Station, up Robbins Ave. then south on State Rd., then north on the line of Devereaux St. to the Wentz Farm Reservoir north of Comly St. and Second St. Pike.  The water main crossed Wissinoming Creek on a 1002' trestle supported by piles.  See below.  The first water pumped by the Pumping Station reached the reservoir on December 10, 1877.

In 1907, The Lardner's Point Pumping Station burned 17,400 tons of coal to pump 15 billion gallons to water users in Philadelphia.
