Lela moved to Tennessee and worked for The Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge Atomic Labs. Lela then moved to Chicago, Il where she was a long time resident, working as a bank teller and serving as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America.
After their marriage, Lela and Leo moved to Oshkosh in 1968. After her husband's death, Lela returned to Tennesee where she worked as a nursing aide for four years. Upon retiring in 1986 she returned to Wisconsin to enjoy her remaining years in Winneconne where she excelled at all kinds of needlework. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards and loved cooking, baking and making jelly for friends and family.
