Notes

Alfred KARLEN

See notes and sources for his wife, Meta Sievert.

Meta Marie SIEVERT

Also see notes for Meta's mother Ida Wegner. Meta was confirmed on April 13, 1913. She spoke only German till she went to a rural school near her home (which is now a restaurant). She married Alfred Karlen in 1930 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin. Alfred emmigrated to the USA from Switzerland. He died in about 1980 at the age of 96. Meta kept extensive scrapbooks on her family history. These may now be in the possession of Meta's granddaughter Monique Louise Karlen. Meta had a chair that belonged to her gm, Frederica <6>. Meta lived at 609 Russell St., Madison, Wisconsin, 53704 (tel 1-608-244-1068) in her later years. The blindness that afflicted her in later years was thought to be hereditary since her father and gf also had it. Meta had a second cousin Ed Sievert, whose wife was Elva Groehler, Milton, Wisconsin (wife was 96 in 1989). She also had a cousin Irene Sievert, who in 1989 had bone cancer.

Charles Sylvester FLEMING

Ref 401 gives marriage announcement of a POSSIBLE (not likely, given birthdate of this Charles Fleming!) daughter: Irene Fleming, daughter of Charles R. Fleming, Jefferson, married June 22, 1935, Harry J. Rose, son of Stephen. Mrs. Peter Blankenheim was a sister of the bride.

Bridget Elizabeth DUNN

See sources for husband, Charles Fleming.

Lawrence William WEGNER

Lawrence started school when his older brother did and as a result graduated from high school before he was 16. He married Rosa Habenicht in 1932. They lived in Ft. Atkinson Wisconsin. He worked for Northwestern Manufacturing till they went bankrupt, then for James Manufacturing as an accountant for many years till he retired.

Rosa Maria Sophia HABENICHT

Born near Hartington, Nebraska. See notes and sources for her husband Lawrence Wegner. Also for her parents.

Carl WEGNER

Carl was the youngest in his family. He lived in Portland, Oregon in 1959 and 1966. His wedding announcement (has picture of his wife) says he was married in Portland Oregon in a Catholic church (although another reference had said they were married in Nebraska.).

Catherine WICKE

See notes and sources for her husband Carl Wegner.

Gretchen WICKE

Do not know birth order of her and her sister. Ref 322 says that as of April 2000, she had been married and divorced and that she had 3 children and lived in Phoenix area.

Dr. John William Henry HABENICHT

He was a chiropracter. Went by "Dr. H. W. Habenicht"

Robert HUEBNER

See notes and sources for his wife Kathleen Annette Wegner.

Kathleen Annette WEGNER

I previously had her and Robert listed as divorced, but Ref 322 says they weren't.

A conversation with Vita Wegner Lanser (born 1929) indicates that Kathleen Wegner born 1933, daughter of Lawrence born 1906, son of August born 1877, son of Karl born 1835, son of Wilhelm (or perhaps Julius Friedrich Wilhelm) Wegner and Hanna Marie Zenke, has a handwritten document of some sort that makes reference to "Julius Friedrich Wilhelm" as his given names, and to Hanna Marie Zenke as his first wife.

Lawrence H. ARNDT

See notes and sources for his wife Jacqueline Jean Wegner.

Jacqueline Jean WEGNER

Residence in Watertown, Jefferson, Wisconsin, where she works as a secretary at a Technical College. Her name was also mentioned in an obit in Edma Jaeger's scrapbook (see Ref 364).

Joseph FRODEL

Also see notes and sources for his daughter Christine and for her husband Carl Herman August Wegner.

M. R. Armelia FRODEL Sr

Birth order of siblings not known. Lived in Stevens Point, Wisconsin in 1967. It is not clear what the title Sr means in this case. It was written before the name. It may mean Sister as in a Catholic order.

Ernie MAREK

Ernie is a half brother to Christine, Sr M. R., and Anna. He is presumedly a child by another marriage of the mother. Do not know if he was born before or after his three siblings.

Bernard Carl Frederick WEGNER

Bernard had polio as a child. His wife Dorothy Beter had an uncle August Groehler (her mother's sister Edith's husband) who was not related to our August Groehler <9>. This "not related" statement (source?) is not really true, because the August that was Edith's husband and Dorothy Beter's uncle was August Friedrich Wilhelm Groehler, born 1874, the son of Johann Karl Friedrich August (called August) Groehler, born 1840, and Bertha Wegner.

They were members of St. Pauls Lutheran church in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin. Their telephone number in about 1990 was 1-414-563-4702. We have a photo of Bernard. I believe Vita Wegner Lanser interviewed Bernard. Also, Ref 401 gives their wedding announcement with a picture of Dorothy.

His obituary (Ref 324) says he was a 1929 graduate of Ft. Atkinson High School and had been employed as a tool and die maker at the Creamery Package Mfg Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1973. He had served on the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors for 24 years, serving as chairman of the Highway and Personnel committees. He was president of the Blackhawk Lodge No. 957 International. Assoc. of Machinists for nine years and was a member of St. Pauls Evang Luth Church. He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Anna GERBER

Do not know birth order of siblings.

Her funeral was at St Paul Luth and she was buried at Evergreen Cemetery. See Ref 393 for her obit.
