Robert Alfred KARLEN

Robert met his wife Giberte (Gigi) Demiomandre while he was in the Army in France. She was the secretary for his boss. They were married in Paris, France in 1959. She was born in Paris, raised Catholic, and became a naturalized citizen of USA on May 20, 1963.

Gilberte or Gigi DEMIOMANDRE

See notes and sources for her husband Robert Karlen. Ref 322 says Gigi's mother was a French citizen, but was on vacation in Belgium when Gigi was born, thus her Belgium birthplace. Gigi lived in an orphange because her mother was sick and her dad died. She was adopted. Her natural dad's family was Russian.

Helmuth HUTH

Just as later the Huth and Wegner families would become very tangled, the Huth's and Klotzen's were at an earlier time closely associated. Edward Klotzen married Wilhelmina Blohm in about 1881. Helmuth Huth married a Minnie in about 1874. Their common grand daughter, Lyla Huth <22>, writes as follows in a note to one of her sisters:

"Grandma (my mother's mother) Klotzin's name was Wilhelmina Blohm and she had a brother, Herman Blohm. Wilhelmina was a popular name for babies when Kaiser Wilhelm was head of Germany and if you would like to do some research on this you might learn something. I'm not sure if the Wilhemina was the feminine version of the Kaiser's name or if it was Queen Wilhelmina that all the babies were named for. Herman Blohm's wife's name was also Wilhelmina but they called her Mina (we kids called "Tamta Mina"). She was a very small person. Aunt Min <236> [Lyla's mother's sister] was also named Wilhelmina but they called her Minnie. Grandpa Klotzin, pronounced Klut-zeen, first name was Edward. The Klotzin's and the Huths came to the U.S. in 1882 from Germany [on the same ship]. Grandpa Klotzin came from Meeklenberg [Prussia] and Grandma K. from Hinter Pommern [i.e., the eastern part of Pomeranina, Prussia, essentially the part that is now in Poland] and the Huth's came from that same area altho I remember Grandpa Klotzin talking about Hanover and Stuttgart."

"My Grandpa Klotzin ran away from home at the age of 15 -- came to the states to avoid the army. Then he went back to Germany and came over again with the Huth's. I still don't know why he said he came from the Stetin area [Stettin was the capital of Pomeranina. not very far from the province of Meklenburg, by the way].

"!"There was a rather cute story the family used to tell about our parents. Dad was two years old and mother 9 months when they came here, and Dad would run around the deck of the ship in his skirts (boys didn't wear pants in those days) and everytime he'd see mother he'd stop and kiss her and then run again."

"The Klotzin's settled in Detroit Michigan and built their first home (Grandpa was a carpenter) at 853 Garfield Ave in Detroit and the Huth's continued on to Wisconsin where they settled on a farm on the Quarterline Road in Walworth Co. The Klotzin's had three daughters: Clara (our mother), Martha and Minnie. They also had a son who died in infancy. The Huth's had 5 sons & a daughter -- Fred, August, William (our father), Carl, Franz, and Rose." [info in square brackets added by A.A.Wegner<30>]
