‘BOYS TOWN’ TO BE ESTABLISHED ON SPRING CREEK NEAR HUSUM
Action not words is the order of the day with a group of White Salmon citizens concerning the question of America's most important investment -- The American Boy. On April 1st, the Columbia Boys Association Inc. will install a potential Washington “Boys Town” at Camp Columbia on a five acre property close to Spring Creek Husum. The institution has as its objective the development of a boys program mainly for boys whose life has been impaired thus endangering the possibility of the youngsters future graduation into healthy useful citizenship. Co-operating with the State Welfare department the Camp will be open for all boys from 10 years up and will be strictly of a constructive and preventive nature and not Corrective. The institution will be developed to conform with State requirements and besides providing facilities for the youngsters to complete their scholastic program at the public schools vocational shops will be added to teach them trades that will aid in their own. Buildings on the property will be improved and altered to accommodate the first twelve boys and then the property will be surveyed and the site of the future buildings decided upon. The Charter which has been applied for, provides for a non-profit corporation with no capital stock and with permission to raise money for the institutions maintenance by any legitimate means.
