CHAMBER TOLD PLANS FOR DEDICATION OF ENGINE AT MARYHILL
Plans are being made to hold the dedication of the steam
locomotive to be placed in the park at Maryhill during the Labor Day weekend,
Mayor George Nesbitt announced at the Chamber of Commerce meeting Monday
noon.
The engine is presently in storage at the SP&S yards
in Portland and has been donated to the county as an item of historical interest.
Nesbitt said Representative Catherine May will be present for the dedication.
Also at the meeting, the members voted to pay $25 dues
to the Washington County Road Association, an organization which works for
the improvement of county roads.
President Daryl Spalding announced at the program next
Monday would feature a talk by Carol Sorenson, who recently returned from
Turkey where she was a foreign exchange student.
A brief report was given on the Hay Growers meeting last
week by Nesbitt and Pete May. The Bureau of Reclamation will make a
reconnaissance study to determine the feasibility of irrigation upon request
from an organization such as the Hay Growers, they said.
