The Bickleton News, Bickleton, WA., June 15, 1923, page 3

FIRST TRAIN TO ENTER BICKLETON
Old Timers Will See the Golden Spike Driven on June 14. Branch line from Sunnyside, so says the Sunnyside Sun.

The wheat farmers of the Horse Heaven district will have the surprise of their life when the P.N. & P.U. extend their system to Bickleton. This branch of the great railroad system has been building the necessary equipment very quietly in the great locomotive and car shops of Sunnyside, with the shrill of the locomotive whistle, and the "stop, look and listen" signs of Ford day in Sunnyside on Wednesday, June 20, the citizens of Bickleton and the wheat farmers of the great Horse Heaven country, will long remember, Old Settlers Day, June 14.
This great railroad building plan has been put across by the Sunnyside Commercial club, the livliest organization in the Northwest. No Eastern capital was required, all of the necessary equipment for this grand opening was put up paid for by the boosters of Sunnyside. The engine is the latest type, with unlimited speed, the box car is of automobile type, long and roomy. The flat car demonstrations and specifications are of standard type.
The crew that will be in charge of this special train, will be men of long standing in railroad circles. A short spin will be made over the P.N. & P.U. lines on Tuesday June 12. The towns of Granger, Yakima, Wapato and Toppenish will be visited. The rate schedule will be announced on Ford Day, June 20, at the headquarters in Sunnyside.
