IT'S NORTH DALLES HEREAFTER
(By Leon W. Curtiss)
Notice that our postoffice is now North Dalles. The change
became operative May 1st, 1932, and Grand Dalles is no more.
It was an error in your expression used in connection
with remarks on the selection of S.F. Ganders, by the state convention, as
alternate to the Chicago Republican convention. While it is not a matter
of great importance, yet the statement is not historically correct.
This is the third selection of a Klickitat county citizen
for attendance at the National convention of the Republican party, within
the past 20 years. My recollection of selection does not reach back farther,
and there may have been others.
At the State convention held at Aberdeen in 1912, Dr.
Collins of Goldendale was chosen as delegate to the Chicago convention for
that year, and duly attended the same. The writer was honored by being permitted
to accompany him and occupy a seat in the convention.
At the Etate convention held at Ellensburg in 1916, the
writer was duly chosen as alternate to attend the National convention of
that year, but did not attend because of sickness and death in the family.
