JOSEPH H. ALLYN HERE SINCE 1879
By Mrs. A.B. Fox, Boring, Oregon
My father, Joseph H. Allyn was born at Freeport, Wash.
May 23, 1870 and came to Goldendale in September, 1879 with his mother and
father and the rest of the family.
They lived in town for a while. There were 49 buildings
in Goldendale at that time. Then the family moved out near the Mike Hoctor
farm. Joe was a carpenter all of his life. He worked at the Beckett mill
which. E.C. Trost later bought, and he stayed on to work for Trost. He rented
buildings in several locations, finally building his own shop on Broadway
Street, which is still there.
After selling his shop Mr. Allyn retired. After the death
of his wife in 1951 he has made his home with his daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Fox. At present he is in a rest home. He noted his 84th
birthday in May. He lived in and around Goldendale for 72 years.
