LARGE CROWD WELCOMES MAIL CARRIER AT GLENWOOD ON FIFTIETH YEAR OF SERVICE
Parade, Speeches, Free Rodeo and General Celebration Enjoyed by Many. Pioneers
Recall First Mail Service
GLENWOOD, July 6. (Special) - The big celebration July
2, honoring Teunis Wyers, started about 11:30 when Mr. Wyers and about 100
men and women on horseback came dashing in Glenwood, stopping at the postoffice,
where the loud speaker was stationed, and everyone came to hear the talks.
Also to welcome Mr. Wyers and the many old time pioneers who remembered when
Mr. Wyers first started to carry the mail and some remember the mail carriers
before Tune's time. Geo. Gilmer gave his experience as postmaster at Gilmer
Valley and his appointment was read. It was signed by President Harrison.
Then Mr. Wyers delivered the mail he had in his mail pouch, about 150 letters,
to commemorate the occasion.
A picnic dinner was enjoyed by all at the rodeo grounds
and the show started. A large crowd came to enjoy the Sheriff's posse, the
Rodeo's association and the Pioneer's association performance, which started
out with a parade and presentation of distinguished members. Then the steer
riding, bucking and calf roping. Everything was free, so it was one day of
a free show. Glenwood is proud that we have such a long time mail carrier
and we hope Tune continues to keep up the good work 50 years more.
