LOCAL LUTHERANS DEDICATE CHURCH
Last Sunday the Lutherans of Hood River and vicinity
dedicated their newly-purchased church. An artistic array of flowers added
to the attractiveness of the church. The services were well attended, both
in the morning and in the afternoon. Rev. P. Hilgendorf, pastor, dedicated
the church to the service of the Lord. Rev. J. Rimbach, of Portland, then
delivered an interesting and appropriate sermon. His theme was: "Why do we
Lutherans believe in Jesus Christ?" Rev. J. Hilgendorf also preached an
impressive and gripping sermon on the theme: "A church in which Jesus Christ
dwells with his unadulterated word is a possession of an inestimable treasure."
To successfully meet prevailing conditions the following
order of services was adopted at a meeting of the members: 1st and 3rd Saturdays
of each month, German; 2nd and 4th, and also when there is a fifth Sunday,
English service.
The pastor extend a hearty invitation to all the young
people of the church to gather Friday evening in the basement of the church
for the purpose of organizing a Young People's Society. A Sunday school will
also be organized next Sunday morning at 9:30.
The financial committee reports that Mrs. Hans Lage,
Mr. Graf, Miss Lena Gosch, The Dalles, and Mr. Jochimsen have been added
to the list of contributors.
