MRS. HENDRYX SELLS
Husum, special to Spokesman-Review.
Dec. 23 -- An important real estate sale was closed
here Tuesday when Mrs. Rosander D. Hendryx sold her 117-acre ranch to George D.
Brown, of Ohio, for $16,200. The track lies two miles north of here on the east
side of the White Salmon river.
Mrs. Hendryx, with her husband, traveled overland to
this country from Texas 25 years ago, the sturdy woman riding horseback the
entire distance, being five months on the road. She is 77 years old and has
taken a man's part in clearing and developing the ranch into one of the finest
tracks in the river valley.
Three years ago her husband died, since which time Mrs.
Hendryx has conducted the ranch alone, wearing overalls and working in the
fields and orchard. With only the help of a boy at intervals she has taken care
of horses, cattle, pigs and chickens, and during the marketing season drove to
many neighboring towns and ranches selling her produce.
This industrious old woman still insists that with the
selling of her ranch she will not be contented until she is once more conducting
a ranch of her own.
Mr. Brown is the man who traveled all over the
Northwest looking for an investment, and finally selected the White Salmon
Valley for his coin.
