NORMA RIDEOUT
Norma Mae (Thompson) Rideout, a longtime Lyle resident,
died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at the Hood River Care Center, at the age of
81.
Mrs. Rideout was born May 21, 1917, at Sagle, Idaho,
to Fred H. and Myrtle (Fournier) Thompson. She grew up in Montana, moving
to Parma, Idaho, as a young child. She made several moves until marrying
Rollin Rideout on Aug. 14, 1952 in Goldendale. The couple settled in Lyle
and she worked at the Lyle Merc for a time, although she was mainly a wife
and mother.
Mrs. Rideout loved cats, horses, gardening and her family.
She was a 4-H leader for many years and helped to form the Lyle River
Riders.
Mrs. Rideout is survived by her husband, Rollin; sons,
Lester Thomas, Manteca, Calif., Lee Thomas, Stockton, Calif., Larry Thomas,
Redding, Calif., Bryan Thomas, Stevenson, and Floyd Gruggs, West Wyoming,
Penn.; daughters Clauda D'Angelo, Clanton, Ala., Julie Halstead, Redding,
Calif., Betty Jolly, Trout Lake, and Mona Miller, White Salmon; 23 grandchildren
and 33 great-grandchildren.
A potluck memorial for Mrs. Rideout will be held Friday,
Feb. 12, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Lyle Lions Club. Interment will be at Lyle
Balch Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Hood River Care Center Resident
Funds, 729 Henderson, Hood River, Ore.
