ALFRED J. ANDERSON

     Alfred John Anderson of White Salmon died Sunday at home. He was 81.
     Mr. Anderson was born Sept. 9, 1911 in Belt, Mont., to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Anderson. He grew up again in Vancouver and Portland, married Grace Ryder in 1929 in Vancouver. He entered the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 17 and served 25 years, retiring as chief warrant officer.
     After discharge he went to Clark College and studied Heliarc welding and worked for Tyee Construction. He was superintendent of power substations. He moved to the White Salmon area in 1962. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace in 1976 after 47 years of marriage. He married the Maxine Fraiser and retired from Tyee Construction in the early 1970s.
     He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He liked to hunt, fish, garden and travel.
     He is survived by his wife, Maxine of White Salmon; children, Dean Anderson of White Salmon, Terry Anderson of Trout Lake, Steve Irving of Milton Freewater, Ore., Kristine Pierce of Corvallis, Scott Irving of Champaign, Ill. ; brother, Harold Anderson of Vancouver; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held Wednesday at Bethel Congregational Church, followed by burial at the White Salmon Cemetery.
     Contributions may be given to the Skyline Foundation.
     Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
